October is Great ShakeOut month!
is year's international ShakeOut Day is Oct. 17, when millions
of people worldwide will participate in earthquake drills at work,
school, or home!
At 10:17 am (local time) on 10/17, you can join millions of
people across California practicing earthquake safety.
While some areas of California are more likely to have
earthquakes than others, all of California is at higher risk
compared to the rest of the country. You could be anywhere when
an earthquake strikes: at home, at work, at school, or even on
vacation.
What we do now will determine our quality of life aer our
next big earthquake. Are you prepared to survive and recover
quickly?
e Great California ShakeOut is an annual opportunity to
practice how to be safer during big earthquakes: "Drop, Cover and
Hold On." e ShakeOut has also been organized to encourage you,
your community, your school, or your organization to review and
update emergency preparedness plans and supplies, and to secure
your space in order to prevent damage and injuries. ShakeOut is
also a reminder for Californians to be prepared nancially, such as
by exploring earthquake insurance. e not-for-prot California
Earthquake Authority oers earthquake insurance throughout
California for homeowners, renters, mobile home owners and
condo-unit owners.

(CERT) Program is designed to increase individual and
community preparedness and self-reliance in the event of man-
made or natural disasters. e Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) has ocially recognized CERT as an important
part of a community's disaster preparedness readiness.
