26 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2024 | Rehearsals for the Holiday Concert in December have begun, and we are all excited to be singing again. Although almost everyone sings in the shower, it's so much more fun when you sing with a group. And that's what the Choral Society is all about, singing together and having fun. Not that it isn't a lot of work because our director challenges us with her music selection, but we still have fun doing it. It's very satisfying to work on a difficult piece of music and present it to the Ocean Hills Community at our concert and be overwhelmed by the thunderous applause. Well maybe not thunderous, but enthusiastic. If you would like to be a part of it, please join us. Choral Society I love the smell of cinnamon at this time of year. What is it in that fragrance that brings a "feeling" of fall and settling in for the season? The crafts and projects during this time of year also seem to take on a different level of care. Our first FREE to members class this month will be making holiday napkin rings and gnome wine bottle covers. Pencil in Sat., Oct. 5 on your calendars. The sign-up list is in the Sewing Room, and the more, the merrier! On Oct. 17 (also a Thursday), we will be making kitchen scrubbers and small gifts for our incredible clubhouse staff. They support our activities and are always "there for us" when called upon. The club had its fall "bruncheon" on the Lanai and, despite the heat, found it to be a good venue. The club invited a speaker from Project Linus who inspired the members to continue with blankets made for an extensive list of worthwhile recipients. There were "door prizes" for everyone thanks to numerous pumpkins made by members along with lots of interesting items donated by former residents. Sewing, etc. is not just for garment making or quilting. The ETC. is a large part of our group, and we are always looking to expand our learning of new crafts or hobbies. If there is something you would like to learn, or just refresh your memory, let us know what that is. We will do our best to help! Knitters and Crocheters are meeting on Saturday mornings from 10 am to 12 pm to work on their "challenge;" Quilting support is happening every Friday morning from 9 to 11:30 am in the Sewing Room; our Kneedlers (knitters) and Hookers (crocheters) gather every Tuesday from 3 to 4:30 pm; and on Tuesday evenings (6 to 8 pm) and Fridays (12 to 3 pm) several quilters, knitters, crocheters and sewers get together for "Sew & Chats." All these gatherings are loosely structured and help to keep us in touch. Please feel free to join any or all of them! Don't forget about our "rideshare" service to meetings and workshops that are held in our Clubhouse. If you are interested in attending and have no transportation, please call Sharon Philippe (760) 500-3086. We have a list of volunteers who will be happy to get you to and from the event. If you are interested in participating in our activities and are not sure who to reach out to for further information, please call MaryLu Belisle (952)454-1931 for more information. Also, please visit our website http://ohccsewing.wixsite.com/ohccsewing All are welcome to join us. Dues are $7 per year. Our meetings are held at 9:30 am in the morning on the first Thursday of each month…we look forward to seeing you!
