16 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2024 | Securitas reports that there has been an increase in impaired driving due to alcohol involving cars or golf carts in the last 30 days. There have been incidents which led to property damage for some of our residents and to common area property as well. When the Banning Police Department has been called in, their ability to act is limited because most incidents have occurred on private property. To help keep our community safe, patrol plans on making additional patrol checks at the Main Clubhouse in the evening to check and see if assistance is needed when dealing with those who may be impaired. A rise in road rage incidents within our community has also been reported in July and August. Securitas has had several cases where residents, after experiencing frustrations while driving, have followed others to their homes to confront them about their driving habits, sometimes escalating to verbal altercations. Security has been actively responding to these situations to defuse them before they become more serious. To improve safety, Securitas recommends that those who are reporting remain in their vehicle and wait for security to respond rather than take matters into their own hands. There have been more complaints about vehicles parked on driveways and streets in Sun Lakes. There may be legitimate reasons for vehicles parked there and security can determine that. Patrol continues to monitor residences that have exceeded the use of resident overnight passes by issuing citations on those vehicles that are in violation, especially repeat offenders. New state-of-the-art cameras and lighting have been installed in the RV lot. Securitas will no longer have a guard there from 10 pm to 6 am. We continue to see traffic violations here in Sun Lakes. These are primarily speeding and failure to stop at stop signs. The Safety Advisory Committee is taking steps and making recommendations to the Board to reduce these violations. Stay tuned! Be a defensive driver. Keep your pets on a leash. Keep your garage doors closed. If you see something, say something. ~ Michael Volz, vmv1950@aol.com Safety Advisory Recreation Advisory EVENING ON THE VERANDA Oct. 2 will be the final Evening on the Veranda for this year.
