20 | THE COLONY NEWS | OCTOBER 2024 | By Sharon Boll Did you know that some Marines at Camp Pendleton will be spending their first-ever Thanksgiving away from home this year? Did you also know that you could help them out? If you are planning on preparing your Thanksgiving meal at home this November, it would be a great idea to welcome a young Marine from Camp Pendleton to share in the festivities! They are always grateful to have the day off base and to share a home- cooked meal. We are looking for families to host at least one or more Marines on Thanksgiving Day. The Colony will send a bus to pick up 56 Marines from the base on Thanksgiving. Meet your Marine(s) at The Colony Clubhouse about 10 am and treat your guest(s) to a wonderful Thanksgiving. The bus leaves The Colony at 3 pm and will take the group back to the base. Think about it — you could make a big difference to someone away from home for the first time. What special memories you could make! For more information, or to serve as a host, contact Sharon Boll at 951-399-8271 or Denise Sturm at 949-632-6552. We appreciate you! Thanksgiving with a Marine Fill a Bag, Feed a Family By Kathleen Ricketts, 951-894-1919 As Thanksgiving approaches, many of us look forward to sitting down with friends and family for that yummy traditional dinner. The Murrieta UMC Food Pantry, which serves more than 150 families each week, could use our help in providing holiday food baskets. If you would like to donate a meal, simply shop for the items below and clip the list to the sack of groceries. You may leave the donations at my home at 40250 Via Ambiente or you may call me for pickup at 951-894-1919. I will deliver all the bags to the Food Pantry; however, I must receive your generous donations by Tuesday, Nov. 5. Thank you for each and every one. • Stuffing mix • Gravy • Instant mashed potatoes • 2 cans green beans • Mushroom soup • Canned fried crispy onions • Canned yams • Brown sugar • Miniature marshmallows • Cornbread mix • Canned pineapple, crushed or rings • Cake or cookie mix • Coffee or hot chocolate • Any other items you would like to provide Last year we handed out 250 holiday meals and 60 of those meals came from wonderful Colony residents.
