60 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2024 | Our trip to Camp Verde had nine rigs, even though the temperature there was just as hot as Banning. Funny, I had been checking the weather for two weeks before the trip and it was supposed to be mid to low 90s, but, we got there and the temps were basically the same as Banning, except in the evenings. The weather didn't keep us die-hards down as there were excursions to Sedona, Williams, Jerome, Cottonwood, Fort Verde, and the Cliff Casino. If you haven't been to Sedona, the red-rock scenery is spectacular. It's gotten more touristy, but it's still a place to see. Williams has Route 66 going through it and is such a quaint little town, and it was 20 degrees cooler. Jerome is also a definite place to visit. As you get to the town there is a visitor center and theater to stop at and watch the history of the town. It's a must see. Old Town Cottonwood is a good place to stop and look around, and of course, it was the closest place with a Walmart for those of us who forgot something. Fort Verde is an old Cavalry Fort from the wild west, but as it was pointed out, it didn't have a wall around it as those in the western movies did. These forts were built with no trees. No one came home a winner from Cliff Casino; however, the salad bar was inexpensive, and the food was very good. Besides it was too hot to BBQ at the campsites. Our Christmas party is Dec. 8 from 5 to 8:30 pm. We'll be collecting unwrapped toys to donate to the fire department to give to kids in need. The annual Yuma trip is March 23-30. Then we're off to Paso Robles May 4-9; Sept. 29 to Oct. 3 we'll be going to Jackson, Ca. Several people are talking about going to these places as extended trips, either before or after the rallies, so as these are developed we hope to get info out to the membership. Our birthday wishes go out to Jane Chaname. 11/11, Bob Drummond 11/17, Leon Fiske 11/18, Richard Collier 11/21, Sandi Miller 11/21, Alan Ronska 11/5, Yolanda Salas 11/4, Lyn Schive 11/10, Steve Schwartz 11/20, Stan Stambaugh 11/5, and Alexandria Lugo 11/27.
