| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | DECEMBER 2024 | 7 Winter is Finally Here! This is the time of year when plants should be planted in your garden. There are many varieties of f lowers such as pansies, snapdragons, and calendula that do well at this time of year. If you need advice, go to one of our local nurseries for accurate information as to what will be good for your garden. Early Winter is also an excellent time to landscape your home. Shrubs and trees can beautify your home's exterior. Planting now ensures new plants will acclimate to the environment. Our community looks lovely – and residents like the way it looks. However, there are many yards that have become overgrown because too many plants were installed. There are also yards that appear barren because too few plants were added. Design matters! Here are some useful tips for designing your garden: • Know the mature size of each plant. This can help prevent over- or under-planting • There are rules for planting - but just following rules doesn't guarantee a pleasing landscape. If you're not a master gardener, it's a good idea to get professional guidance before planting • We all have many favorites, but you can't plant them all! Restraint can be a good thing • Think about what your yard will look like one, two, or three years from planting • Plants will grow. Don't neglect to plan for maintenance The good news is that you don't need to know everything about plants, shrubs, and trees. We have many local nurseries that are equipped to help you with a design and with making good choices for your unique yard. Happy planning – and planting! Landscape Committee
