28 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2024 | Village Vets You've all heard the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child." Similarly, it takes a dedicated team to run the Village Vets. A perfect example of this teamwork is our recent Veterans Day Observance. To pull off this event, we coordinated with over 50 individuals and groups, both internal and external, to honor our veterans. Throughout the year, your Village Vets Board of Directors worked hard to arrange a lineup of incredible speakers and events to bring our veterans and supporters together. I'd like to take a moment to recognize some directors who went above and beyond. First, we have Greg and Patty Coffey, our behind-the-scenes dynamic duo. They've ensured that refreshments were available at all our general meetings, including our Hot Dog Extravaganza, they've helped arrange several speakers, and much more. They also played a key role in making our Diaper Drive a huge success! Next up, another couple: Michael and Marta Welch. They were instrumental in organizing a fantastic visit to the Army and Navy Academy and supporting our general meetings. Along with Patty Coffey and Rosilyn Nesler, they are leading this year's annual Holiday Party on Dec. 7 — mark your calendars and you better have your tickets already. If not, contact Patty! Following the Coffey's and Welches, we have Jim and Jody McDonough. They've stepped up all year to ensure our newsletter, The Bugle, is produced and delivered, and that our meetings ran smoothly. And let's not forget Pat Battles, Larry Soukup, Smitty, Jack Shabel, and David Hef ler. They've been my guiding force, helping me stay grounded about what we can realistically accomplish. They've volunteered for every event we've organized, which is quite rare in most clubs. We also have our "Flag Dude," Bob St. Laurent. Bob is quickly becoming a legend in Ocean Hills for his commitment to caring for our f lags, and braving all weather conditions to ensure Old Glory is properly displayed. Finally, a huge thank you to all our Village Vets Club members! Your support has been invaluable when we needed it most and 2025 can only be better!!
