| OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2024 | 37 Few members of any club really want to go to an Annual Membership Meeting, but it's important to learn what the members think of the club and how it could be improved. What to do? The Billiard Club bribed them with free beer, soft pretzels, and a free $160 pool cue (above)! A good turnout approved the officers for 2025: President Charlie Payne, Vice President of Competition Doug Murray, Vice President of Education Janice Pelcher, Treasurer Kathy Thornton, and Secretary Jan Demont. Oh, how did someone win the cue? We handed out tokens to anyone who asked a good question or made a good suggestion during the meeting. Everyone with a token would be eligible for the drawing. We had lots of participation! Peter Fiore drew the lowest number from the pea bottle and marched off with the cue. The main event was the Club 8-Ball Championship. The 16-player field was just the right number for a double- elimination tournament. Everyone played at least two games because you have to lose twice before you are out. Janice Pelcher won three straight games and advanced to the finals. Charlie Payne lost a heartbreaker in the second round when he slammed the 8-ball the full length of the table straight into the correct pocket and then watched in horror as the cue ball dribbled into another pocket to lose the game. But he won the rest of his matches to meet Janice in the finals. "B" player Janice got to remove three of her seven balls as a handicap. That made it a close match, but Charlie hung on to win the championship. David Key completed the podium by defeating John Pashkowsky. Prizes were $50, $25 and $10. The madhouse of Do Dues Day is coming in January, but you can pay for your dues ahead of time and relax on DDD. Our Club is holding the line on inflation. Dues have been steady at $7 for more than 15 years! That'll buy you half an hour in an outside pool room or all-you- can-eat here in the finest pool room for miles around, including 19 lessons and 10 free tournaments with cash prizes. Get a good start with our famous "Four Basic Lessons" beginning in late January. Written by Charlie Payne, (760) 295-0670 Billiards
