| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2024 | 11 By Beverly Simmons, Master Board 2nd Vice-President DID YOU KNOW??? Did you know that a system called Opticom is now located at all the entry gates into Sun Lakes? This system is specific to emergency vehicles, allowing them immediate access when they approach a gate. The system responds to the flashing emergency lights, which all use a specific pattern. This pattern registers with the sensors and opens the gate. This is similar to the way stop lights respond to the flashing pattern and change from red to green when an emergency vehicle approaches. The addition of this system will help increase the response time of emergency vehicles within our community. Did you know now that the time change is firmly in place, it is dark at 5 pm? Yet many of us are still out, talking to our neighbors, walking our dogs, or just out for an evening stroll after dinner. Here are a few tips to help you stay safe and visible to drivers. • Wear light-colored, brightly colored, or reflective clothing. Reflective tape is available and can be put on a jacket or windbreaker. • Get your dog a reflective collar and/or a reflective leash. • Carry a flashlight – and use it! • Expect drivers NOT to see you. They will be looking at the road, not the sidewalk. • Stay alert! Don't let distractions, like texting or talking on your phone, lower your awareness. Keep your dog close to you and in your view. It just takes seconds for your dog to wander into the street or for a coyote to take it. • Be careful and be aware. Your safety is your responsibility. Did you know that SLCC now has two very distinctive Food & Beverage venues? The Sandwedge Sports Bar & Grill offers simple, basic bar food including hamburgers, hot dogs, and chips and salsa as well as breakfast on the weekends, starting at 9 am. The new Sun Lakes Lounge offers a more upscale, "country club" atmosphere with food to match. Try the sautéed Brussels sprouts, shrimp taquitos, or Wagyu burger with garlic-herb goat cheese. These menus are specific to each location, so if you want a hot dog, head to the Sandwedge. For something a bit more chic, the Sun Lakes Lounge is your destination. A third venue comes into play on Friday and Saturday nights when fine dining is offered in the Restaurant, complete with tablecloths, flowers, candles, and premier service. With competing Food and Beverage settings, Sun Lakes is focused on satisfying all your dining experiences. TVs are present in both the Sandwedge and Lounge but if you want a full sports immersion with a laid-back atmosphere, the Sandwedge is where you need to be. If you want to dress up a bit, listen to music, and enjoy a conversation, the Lounge will put you in your element. Wherever your mood takes you, come enjoy these one-of-a-kind amenities that life in Sun Lakes has to offer. Did you know that as of Dec. 1, the House Accounts are no longer active BUT Scrip will remain Scrip? You will still earn it and you will still be able to spend it in the Pro Shop, Sandwedge, and Lounge. You will continue to use your ID card to open a tab in these locations and pay your bill with one of your credit cards.
