4 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2024 | Early in the campaign to stop the Banning Point project, the Pass Action Group coined the phrase "It Takes a Community to Save The Community." That is exactly what it took to defeat this project. This was not only achieved with generous financial donations but also all the interactions with the community. We received newspaper articles, website links, fundraising support — you name it — in short, the community responded and contributed. On Nov. 17, we held a Town Hall with the community. We are hoping that with our victory and the fact that the developers have not filed a lawsuit against the city that this will be our final town hall. The developers have until Jan. 6, 2025, to file a lawsuit contesting the city's decision to deny the project. The Pass Action Group would not be a party to this lawsuit although it could affect the decision of denial. If they file, we will just have to wait and see what the court rules. At the Town Hall, Ms. Dorrie Gartzke, was honored as "Person of the Year." Ms. Gartzke has collected and donated over $30,000 from the community recycling program that she devised and implemented.
