32 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2025 | Club W The new year has begun, and we move on with hope for the future. Club W (originally the Widows Club) was started five years ago, with 10 people at Joann Viner's home. We now have over 140 members. Joann retired this year, after an amazing leadership. We look forward to 2025, with Carol Ann Nakeff as our new President. Although we are together for each other, who have lost a beloved spouse, our goal is not only to find comfort, but to also have fun and continue to enjoy our lives. We have a meeting on the third Saturday of each month at 10 am in the Abravanel Hall with excellent speakers. Once a month on the fourth Thursday we meet and enjoy ourselves in a local restaurant. Riders are always arranged. On Saturday afternoons, we have games in the Clubhouse and every December we celebrate Christmas and Chanukah with a catered lunch with entertainment. We go on trips that are planned for us to place such as visiting the Monet exhibit and performances at Laurence Welk. So please come to a meeting and see what we are all about. I believe you will find friendships, support, and the ability to meet new people and share wonderful times with other folks who may have had many experiences such as your own. In life, we must move on and Club W offers you the opportunities to do just that. Written by Selma Leighton Please stop by and see us on Do-Dues Day. We're usually in the corner at the back of Abravanel Hall. For 2025 our dues will remain at $10. For our general meeting on Jan. 16, we plan to have a slide show of everyone's favorites from 2024. Select five to ten of your favorites of any category and send them to ohccphotoclub@gmail.com. If the result is too large, please use Dropbox or Google Drive or the old-fashioned thumb drive to Mike's or Jim's tube. We'll have refreshments as usual. For 2025 we are considering the following activities but be sure to let us know if you have any ideas to check out. All we know for sure is January – all the rest can change. January – slide show of the best of 2024 February – take advantage of free admission for seniors (65+) at Safari Park. Take lots of photos and pick out your favorites. Note – if you are not yet 65 and want to participate, let us know. We have a limited number of free and half-price tickets. Question – do we want to do the photo shoot in the first half of February and have the slide show at the regular (third Thursday) day and time? For now, assuming no. March – slide show of Safari Park photos April – planning meeting for an outing in May to Old Town, where we will be shooting as if for a magazine. We're hoping Robert Genat, who has actually done stuff like this, will be able to coach us. May – photo shoot at Old Town. We may ride the Coaster or car- pool. Also, either right at the end of May or the beginning of June we'll (probably) be invited to photograph the homes on the OHCC Garden Tour. June – Get together and review what we did at Old Town. July and August – we are dark From September on we'll think of something. Written by Jim McDonough – jamespmcdonough@gmail.com – (760) 593-9994 Photography
