What was it…?
It was November 1920-something and
colorful leaves were falling from the trees with
"prohibition" spirits f lowing like a river. Wonderful meals were
served in a beautifully retro-decorated Bistro. The women regaled
in their f lapper gowns and fascinators and were dripping in jewelry,
while men dressed in their sharply pinstriped suits donning Panama
and newsboy hats and Spatz were showing off their beautiful molls.
All were dancing at the Charleston.
You guessed it…!
It was a group of 150 Ocean Hills Country Club folks transported
back in time by Laura Carlson, Captain of the Sailing Club's Great
Gatsby time machine. Following the revelry Laura safely returned
everyone to 2024 with the memory of having
spent a magnificent evening 100 years in the
past.
With Do Dues Day coming on Jan. 11, the club expects to hit 300
members early in the 2025 season. Our Fleet Captain has already
scheduled the first 2025 Captains and Mates planning meeting.
With 118 sails completed in 2024 up from 70 or so in 2023, we can
only imagine how many sails we will enjoy in 2025.
The Sailing Club hopes all its members and our Ocean Hills
Country Club neighborhood residents are having a joyous holiday
season, while looking forward to a healthy and happy new year.
May you all enjoy fair winds and following seas. Written by
