| THE COLONY NEWS | JANUARY 2025 | 27 Our artist for January 2025 is our oil painter, Sunny Hilliker. She took up oil painting nearing the end of her career in accounting. Sunny received an associate in liberal arts from Crown College in 1975, and later studied art at Colorado State University and San Diego Mesa College. Sunny continues to exhibit in national shows and currently has some works accepted into jury shows in the San Diego Museum of Art Guild, Dammeyer Gallery in Balboa Park "La Jolla Overlook" through March 9, 2025, and Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, "LPAPA Squared" show through January 6, 2025. Thank you, Sunny, for being part of our ColonyArtists willing to show their beautiful artwork in our Clubhouse Lobby. Artist of the Month By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766 Backyard Birds Presentation Do you want to learn more about the birds in your backyard? The Petal Pushers Garden Club is excited to have Michele Felix- Derbarmdiker, Naturalist from the Riverside- Corona Resource Conservation District (RCRCD), speak on this subject at our meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 1 pm in the Annex. The RCRCD is a local government agency that helps conserve the natural resources (soil, water, plants and wildlife) of areas within western Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Michele is a certified California Naturalist who received her B.S. in Biological Science with a concentration in Conservation Biology from the University of California Riverside in 2010. She now uses her background to work on the biology and educational teams at the RCRCD. In addition to Michele's presentation, we will have available the book Backyard Birds of the Inland Empire by Sheila N. Lee. This is a very useful book that is loaded with pictures and descriptions for each bird, when you can expect to see them, what they look like, similar species, behaviors, voice, nesting, food, etc. The Petal Pusher presentations are open to all Colony residents. If you have any questions, contact Jane Payne at janepayne3verizon. net or (909) 455-2253. Petal Pushers Garden Club By Jane Payne
