We're starting the new year with two dances that offer a little something extra – a chance to dress up in costume. First is a fun Mardi Gras-themed party on Sun., Feb. 16, featuring the Cadillac Fringe Band. Remember, beginning with this dance and throughout the rest of the year, doors will open at 5:30 pm and the band/DJ will begin playing at 6 pm. On Sun., March 16, Clay Colton's Irish Band will rock Abravanel Hall for the annual St. Patrick's Day party. Can't wait to see lots of costumed leprechauns! The Doo Wop Board made the decision to start the dances at 5:30 instead of 6 pm because attendees are arriving early and waiting in line anyway and an earlier ending time, at 9 pm instead of 9:30 pm, will enable hosts to clean up and get home at a reasonable time. Mark your calendars for party dates for the rest of the year. They are Sat., April 12; Thurs., May 8; Fri., June 13; Fri., July 11; Fri., Aug. 15; Fri., Sept. 19; Fri., Oct. 31; and Fri., Nov. 21. We had a record number of sign ups for Doo Wop membership at Do Dues Day last month! If you did not have a chance to join our club then, please stop by the front desk at the clubhouse, fill out the form so we have your information and leave a check in the envelope. Dues are still only $10. See you on the dance floor! Written by Tom Harwood, President 14 | OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2025 | Village Squares Village Squares is winding down, but we're still here and still active. Our president, Robert Gross, has come up with the idea that instead of fourth Wednesday being black and white, it be a different theme each time. This sounds like a great idea to add a little spark into the fourth Wednesdays, traditionally black and white. Some of his ideas are 27 dresses for January — a party outfit you don't get to wear often. February could be "Carnival," March "It's Not Easy Being Green," April "Wild West," and May "Hawaiian shirts." These are tentative and could be changed, but we will announce well in advance what each theme will be. In any case, come on out and dance while we still can! I hope to see you in a square. ~ Valerie ompson Doo Wop & Disco Dance We want to extend a great big thank you to Sunny Griffin, President, Ann Wicker, Vice President, Jaime Albano, Treasurer, and Chris Sanderson Secretary for their years of service on our Board. After all their years of dedication they have decided to step down. Our new Board members are: Drora Oren, President; Michael Oren, Vice President; Carole Meuret, Secretary; Esther Ratterree, Treasurer; and Kathy Kelsay, Webmaster. We can only hope we do as well as the previous Board members. Line dancing has changed dramatically over the years. It is lots of fun and easy to learn. It is great exercise for the body and the mind. Our Instructor, Christine, uses a variety of music including Pop, Latin, Country, and Big Band in a low pressure relaxed environment. Our classes are once a week: Beginner (level 1): Tuesday 10:30-11:30 am cost $5 Improver (Level 2): Monday 12:30-2 pm, cost $7 Intermediate (Level 3): Tuesday 12-1:30 pm, cost $10 oughts for the Day: We do not stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing. Never be the rst to get old. Please, one and all, join us for line dancing fun, no partner needed.
