The Beginning… By the time you read this it will be the first week in February 2025, and you are probably wondering what is happening with the Let's Dance Club. Well, wonder no more, our first dance is scheduled for Feb. 22. We have also reserved dates for the rest of the year, as listed above. We are planning a very active year, and we are looking for volunteers to help us plan these events. Our club's philosophy is to organize events at which various types of popular music genres are played. We also plan to have other types of entertainment, including possibly comedians, maybe a few dance demonstrations or lessons. We will entertain any ideas suggested by our members. But most importantly, we will have music themes that bring back memories of our youth. Some themes may also be educational regarding the origin of the music and its performers. With the above in mind, we are dedicating our first event to the era of Yacht Rock. Never heard of it? Here is a brief history: This genre of music was made between 1976 and 1984 in Southern California. It is a mellow kind of soft rock that often has a high level of musicality encompassing elements of rock, jazz and rhythm and blues. Typically, Yacht Rock is more musical than lyrical and has more electric piano than acoustic guitar. Some artists and bands of this music genre and era include Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Steely Dan, Hall & Oates, The Doobie Brothers, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Eagles, Christopher Cross, Robbie Dupree, Jimmy Buffett, Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Neil Diamond, Michael Jackson, The Bee Gees, and even The Beach Boys. Some popular songs of that era: Diamond Girl, Escape, Love Will Keep Us Together, What a Fool Believes, We May Never Pass is Way Again, Sailing, Brandy, to name just a few! What are your favorites? Let us know! Call Nelson at (412) 726-3364. You must admit the Let's Dance Club plans to provide an awesome trip down memory lane with feel good and danceable music and where one song can bring back 1000 memories! Let the dancing begin!
