38 | OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2025 |
The 2025 sailing season is
upon us. The new year will
bring lots of fun for all our
members. By the time you
read this, Do Dues Day and the
Club's first general meeting
will already be in the rear-view mirror along
with Fleet Captain Charlie Cappello's first all-
hands Captains and Mates planning meeting.
Charlie has budgeted for 107 sails in 2025. Last
year he budgeted for 70 and delivered 118. A bit
of extrapolation on this year's 107 sail budget
could have us heading for a 150 sails season.
Wow! With a highly enthusiastic group of 10
Captains, 15 First Mates and nearly half a dozen
Second Mates and candidates-in-training it's
entirely possible.
Training Coordinator Dave Ramgren is
already scheduling "Newbie" classes and
training events and "Newbie" sails for
members who are new to the club in 2025.
And, by popular demand we will have topical
guest lecturers on hand to speak to us. There
will also be a number of non-
sail events for members, e.g.,
docent led Midway tours, whale
watching, Triton Catamaran
harbor tours, San Onofre tours
and more.
Come November, Club members will spend
an enjoyable evening at a 1950s diner arranged
by Social Director Laura Carlson. It will be a
time for poodle skirts and malted milk shakes
and rolling our quarters into the slot as we
lindy "till the sun comes up.
As always, may we all have fair winds and
following seas. Written by Commodore Skip
Maniscalco and edited by Kathy C. Maniscalco
