| OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2025 | 39 RV Club Many club members kicked off they new year by attending a five-day Rose Parade RV Rally in Pasadena sponsored by the SOI Motorhome Club. There were so many fun activities planned in addition to attending the Rose Bowl Parade. The first day club members helped by placing roses on the Sierra Madre f loat. I'm told it was fascinating to see the f loat in "construction mode" prior to f lowers being added. The f loat ended up winning the Golden State Award for "Most Outstanding Depiction of Life in California," which may be partially due to the fine work of OHCC members. After the parade it was off to tour the Huntington Library & Outdoor Gardens and, in the evening an enjoyable dinner at San Antonio Winery. What a day! The following day it was to the Rose Bowl Festival Grounds to view two of the major f loat barns which housed numerous large f loats in various stages of construction, to include the San Diego Zoo f loat, which received top honors for the second year in a row. Then it was off to the Band-Fest show. Day three included an all-day city tour of Los Angeles to include Olvera Street, Griffith Park Observatory, the Hollywood & Highland Walk of Fame, and the Farmers Market. The evening culminated in a festive New Year's Celebration that included a delicious dinner and live music from the Crown City Dixieland Band. The evening concluded with a traditional champagne toast at 9 pm, better known as Ocean Hills Midnight. Day four was off to the Rose Bowl Parade with a 48-degree chill in the air, though we were treated to amazing f loats, vibrant bands, and majestic horses. In the afternoon, many of us had the opportunity to view the f loats up close at the Showcase of Floats. All in all, it was a very busy and fun RV Club trip, filled with memorable experiences and great camaraderie and a big thank you to our Wagon Masters Barbara and Bob Becker. February brings "Fireworks in the Desert" while we travel to Coachella, California and then on to Lake Havasu City, Arizona with Wagon Masters Sue and Tom Porter, Debbie Head and Linda Shestock. This trip includes a tour of the Palm Springs area and then on to Lake Havasu City camping at the SARA Park Rodeo Grounds for four nights. While there we will be attending the "Winter Blast" pyrotechnics show and "Pyro Party" with live bands, food trucks, and many other activities on the fairgrounds in addition to the fireworks. But wait there's more, a sunset tour of Lake Havasu, beautiful! Our next membership meeting will be on Tues., April 29 at 4 pm in Abravenal Hall and I think you know what I'm thinking, if you're not there, we may talk about you! Written by Marshall Kelsay On Jan. 29 we say goodbye to the lunar year of the Dragon and welcome in the year of the Snake. Happy lunar New Year! It is also time to renew your membership if you have not done so. The communications from the club will be sent only to 2025 members effective Jan. 15. The American MahJongg Tournament is scheduled to be held on March 22 in the Hall. Look for information to be emailed out soon as registration should begin mid-February. If you do not receive an email, look in your checkbook to confirm that you renewed your membership. FYI - It takes a couple of days to update the database after the dues have been paid. The American MahJongg League has published the annual official bulletin. No alterations to the rules were in this issue. The publication is celebrating its 88th year. Thanks to the League for providing a set of rules that has established a national platform on which players from different parts of the country can play together. With a few exceptions, Saturday afternoons in the Clubhouse will continue to be available for practice games. If you would like to receive a reminder, notify Patti Lightholder. Note: all Saturdays in April, July and October have been set aside for Basic American MahJongg classes. If you are willing to be a table coach during the Basic Training classes, please call or text Dawn Edwards. The April class is expected to be well attended, and we will need one table coach for every three students. Aiding the students also helps table coaches learn the brand, new card!
