28 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | FEBRUARY 2025 | Golf Club From the President, Mike Caldwell: ere is always something to celebrate during a new year. For me, I celebrate the opportunity to participate in our weekly Tuesday golf events with friends that I have made while being a member of the Golf Club. Because it's early in the year, it's also time to carry out last month's resolutions that will lead to improving our golf games. As for me, I have come to the realization that the number one way of making game improvements will be to 'take some lessons'. Trying to diagnose my swing faults without the help of a professional is like trying to diagnose ailments without the help of a doctor. I can't wait to get started. In closing, I would like to thank each of the members of our club for the support they have provided during the last year. I am looking forward to the rest of this year. From the Vice President, Bob Morriss: We are working on a second round of the free golf lessons; the response to the rst set of free lessons was overwhelming. We are also trying to set up the next Four Seasons Golf tournaments. It has been a coordination challenge. More information will be provided aer we are able to coordinate with the other Four Seasons communities. Others Play Low Net; 8:30 am -Individual: NINE Hole Low Net Tournament Feb. 18: 8 am - Individual Low Net: all Par 3's + all Par 5's + Two Par 4's; 8:30 am - Individual: NINE Hole Low Net Tournament Feb. 25: 8 am - Partners Scramble; 8:30 am - Individual: NINE Hole Low Net Tournament From the Membership Chair, Blair Becker: Applications for membership in the Club are available in e Lodge. A reminder: e club has two types of memberships, playing member and social member (non-playing member at a reduced annual fee). Any questions can be directed to Blair Becker at 163blair@gmail. com. From Handicap Chair, Debbie James: An award (gi certicates) for the Most Improved Male Golfer and Female Golfer (for July 2024 through December 2024) will be presented at the Club's Winter Banquet (Feb. 1) at e Lodge Ballroom at 5 pm. From the Social Committee Chair, Meredith Becker: e Winter Banquet is going to be a fun time featuring a delicious paella. Four Seasons Golf Club End of Year Structured Paella Party Sat., Feb. 1, 5 pm in the Ballroom $15 per person; Reservations accepted until Jan. 23 e world-famous Becker paella! mehlah2@aol.com (619) 517-1806 From the "Just When I thought that Golf Was Getting Easy," Mike McLaughlin: As of the rst of the year, Gerry Edmonds is the sole Four Seasons Golf Club member with a single digit (9.5) handicap index (H. I.). Bill Swiney, Javiar Parada, and Larry Becker are close. For the women, Tracey Shabro leads the way with a 15.0 H. I. and Debra Kosaka is close behind (16.3 H. I.). As the above illustrates, golf is a game that generates an amazing number of statistics and endless analysis. However, the number 47 seldom shows up. It's a prime number that no notable athlete wares. So, what's the scoop on 47? Well, it's the number of putts that Blair Becker (H. I. 19) took on a recent club game. For the pros, the average number of putts is 29; for golfers with Blair's H. I., it's around 35. So, if you see someone cursing and destroying his putter (see below), it's probably Blair. P.S. As a result of the article in last month's Herald, Dennis James and Cecil Frazier threatened legal action (something about their reputation). e investigative rm of Grimes-Crimes-Grimes was able to bring forward statements from Debbie James and Debra Frazier that proved that there was no way Dennis and Cecil's reputations could be further damaged, so the case should be dropped. Submitted by Mike McLaughlin, Club Secretary At right: Blair's solution to his putting woes!
