30 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2025 | New possibilities, new connections. This year the African Heritage Connection Club is preparing to embark on a series of wonderful events and activities. As a new club, AHCC has been listening to the diverse interests of our members and those who are considering membership. Approved as a club in May 2024, the mission and vision of AHCC is to celebrate, appreciate, and share the joys of our African heritage and common identity at Sun Lakes Country Club. These ongoing informational, inspirational, and social events keep us connected to each other and our shared history. Our monthly meetings and special events have something for everybody. Our March meeting will have Jamaican and American food for dinner; two members sharing their unique backgrounds to open a discussion about the diversity of people of African heritage and end the evening with music and dancing. For April, we will have a professional speaker to share the importance of planning our security as we continue to age, and music and dancing to end our evening. Members can look forward to a Red Tails (Tuskegee airmen) movie with dinner in May. A Paint and Sip evening and many more fun and enlightening meetings are being planned. Excursions, including a day trip to the African American Beginnings Museum and a visit to the African American Museum in Washinton D.C. are on the agenda. Special events for members and nonmembers include an evening of Jazz in June celebrating Juneteenth. A Gospel Music Brunch in September and a Black author reading and Black artist show in the fall. Part of our African heritage connection and shared history is the AHCC Book Club, focusing on Black Literature. The AHCC Book Club will have their first monthly meeting Tue., March 11 from 6 to 7:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Atrium. We will discuss the novel James, by Percival Everette.
