Written by Karen Hasting and Ellen Kippel Salt Club Serve And Love Together We were all talking the other day and someone said… Have you ever made tea and then forgot to drink it? Or coee? Or, walked into another room to do something but when you got there you couldn't remember why you were there? Are we the select few who nd ourselves shopping in the supermarket specically to buy a certain item, then arrive home with everything except the one item we went to the store to buy? To better address healthcare needs in today's modern world, and to fulll our purpose to bring speakers in to share their expertise with our members, SALT invited Dr. Matthew Willis, Founder of Advanced Functional Medicine, to speak to our members and guests on Feb. 25. He explained how the best conventional medicine in terms of diagnostics is used to identify the root causes of imbalances in key underlying systems within the body. e Seminar was informative, providing startling statistics of the trends in the healthcare industry, while placing an emphasis on healing in its truest form — from the inside out. e serving-arm of SALT is "Friend Connections." To connect with and form meaningful relationships with our neighbors, we formed the following groups: Telephone Reassurance Calls: e Telephone Reassurance Group will connect people in need with ongoing, caring human contact and/or conversation. We will focus on people who are at risk of loneliness, social isolation, illness or injury. Minor Repair and Maintenance: e group will meet and identify specic repairs they can address to help the residents in OHCC; i.e., change outside lightbulbs, change batteries in smoke detectors, check carbon monoxide detectors. Paper Treasures: e group will meet to write notes and letters to people in OHCC to make connections with our neighbors. Engaging With Our Neighbors who are in need of assistance, i.e., homebound • Reading To a Neighbor • Playing Cards and Games • Craing Sewing Soup Ministry: Lisa Seamans, a resident, grows her own organic vegetables to create nutrient dense soup for cancer patients and individuals with Alzheimer's. Her number is (760) 519-7742. Leave a message with your name, number, your request. If you do not leave a message, she will not return your call. SALT is open to all residents in OHCC for $10.
