32 | OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2025 | Club W We at Club W enjoy socializing. is past month, there were several social events planned and enjoyed by our members. At our Saturday monthly meeting on Jan. 18, the program was very interesting, and quite enlightening. It was led by our president Carol Ann Nake, who has some amazing credentials, Teacher, Docent, Counselor. e members were split up into three groups, and the topic was "Birth Order," where individuals discussed the eects on their lives based on their position in the family. First child, middle child, youngest child, etc. ere were many smiles and some tears as people remembered the past. We now have several male members, and we welcome them and their participation in the program. And then of course, we held our monthly luncheon at Oceanside Broiler. Excellent lunch and rides were provided. 35 of us attended. Our March 15 meeting will feature Dr. Sany Sundell. She will talk about dealing with grief and moving ahead productively. Dr. Sany Sundell also writes a column for the Village Voice, where folks can email her anonymously to ask to advise on personal problems. And of course, there is always a great lunch on the fourth ursday of every month. So join us for help when needed, and fun when provided. We signed up so many new members on Do Dues Day. We hope you will join us for our next meeting on March 15. Written by Selma Leighton Many of us at OHCC use a smart phone as the primary (or only) camera. ere are lots of ways you can back up those photos. Here are some that I rely on: • Sync your phone with your computer. Take the wire that you use to charge your phone and plug one end into your phone and the other end into your computer. I can't tell you what will happen with your specic phone and computer, but almost always some process will start up asking if you want to back up your phone. You do! • If you are a Mac user, the built-in Photos app can be used to import all the photos on your phone. You may have to enter the passcode for the phone. It's simple and free, and they only get uploaded once. • If you are not a Mac user, but you have an iPhone, the iTunes app can be used to sync your photos in much the same way. • If you don't have an iPhone, start the app you use to edit and store photos on your computer while the phone is connected. It should scan your phone and identify all the photos you've never copied to your computer. If it asks for you to copy them, reply 'yes'. • If you have Amazon Prime, enter 'Amazon Photos' in the search bar. It'll probably ask you to sign in with your Amazon user ID and password. You can upload an unlimited number of photos at full resolution to Amazon Photos. Just get the photos you want to back up into a folder, and tell Amazon Photos where it is, and let it run as long as it takes. It's part of your membership. ey also have an automatic upload of photos from your phone but loading your whole library that way would be expensive. And note – if you have an Echo Show, you can say, "Alexa, show my photos," and she will run a slide show of your saved photos. • If you are a Flickr member, they oer unlimited storage for about $60/year. e interface is clunky, but Flickr.com is very popular among photographers. • Google Photos will take a whole article! I don't use it for backup. I'm too cheap. To learn more, stop by a Photo Club meeting in Lamia on the third ursday at 1 pm. Dues are $10. ~ Jim McDonough, jamespmcdonough@gmail.com, (760) 593-9994 Photography
