| OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2025 | 33 Woodchucks Spring has ocially sprung and Mr. Woodchuck (as of this writing in early February) has seen his shadow, but I know for those of us lucky enough to live in SoCal that means absolutely nothing. It's denitely warming up in the Woodchucks' Shop. Many members are either getting a head start on making toys for our end-of-the-year Toy Drive or being creative with projects of their own. Scott Grith is building a Queen Anne Lowboy that will look like an heirloom quality antique. Alan Belisle has designed and built an articulated toy marching soldier powered by wheels with gear-driven legs and arms. Jim Kawal is building a wooden truck and camper that has many congurations for his grandchild. And our Shop Steward/ Resident Wizard Robert "Murf " Haugen has built two prototypes for our next holiday toy drive; a Porsche 911 with opening doors and bucket seats, and a Formula One race car complete with spoilers and an independent wishbone suspension. Brian Buchan and Larry Kummer are continuing to make beautiful wooden writing pens for the Wounded Warrior Project at Camp Pendleton. Won't you join us making sawdust? A $10 membership fee, application and waiver forms will get you started. en, aer watching a short safety video/shop introduction, you'll be able to use our great shop which has more tools than you can t in your garage! Individual shop tours and consultations are available each week without appointments during these days and times: Mondays 3 to 4 pm, Tuesdays 3 to 4:30 pm, and Fridays 3 to 4 pm. If there is a place you would like to visit or experience, please feel free to us (ohcctravelclub2025@gmail.com) with your suggestions. Here are our upcoming trips: April 16. Kimberly Crest House & Gardens in Redlands featuring a Victorian Chateau and Italian Renaissance styled garden. e house, built in 1897, is a charming example of life during the Gilded Age in Southern California. Following our tour, we head to the nearby A.K. Smiley Public Library, built in 1894. Nearby is the Lincoln Memorial Shrine, a philanthropic work of Robert Watchorn in memory of his son Ewart, who lost his life during WWI. May 20. Reagan Library and the Dead Sea Scrolls. is is a once in a lifetime experience to view eight authentic Dead Sea Scrolls and over 200 artifacts from the Second Temple period including the Magdala Stone and objects from Masada. Aug. 13. Pageant of the Masters. A favorite trip to Laguna Beach to see this outdoor theatrical performance where famous works of art are brought to life onstage. is year's theme is GOLD COAST: Treasures of California. Masterpieces from the most revered museums and monuments in Golden State will be featured. Save e Date July 4th. Cruise the San Diego Bay on the Hornblower to view the Big Bay Boom Fireworks Display. Surely to be spectacular! Details to follow. Frequently people on a trip need to cancel. Many people on our wait lists actually have had the opportunity to go on our trips. To be placed on the waitlist or to register for any of our trips, leave a check made out to the OH Travel Club, in the Travel Club envelope at the Clubhouse Front Desk.
