28 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MARCH 2025 | Golf Club From the President, Mike Caldwell: I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous eorts of Meredith and Larry Becker (mostly Meredith) and their daughters Jamie and Lynn for organizing our recent annual banquet. e work that went into it by all volunteers was greatly appreciated by those who attended. As a fore-runner to our St. Patrick's Day golf event, a little Irish humor is called for. An Irishman, playing in his club championship, had one hole le to play in his round. As he stepped to the 18th hole tee box, he found himself on the cut line and needed to nish with a par to qualify for the weekend. e crowd following him went silent when he struck his shot high and far to the right of the fairway, landing somewhere in very deep rough. e search was on for his errant shot, but to no avail. "Lord," he prayed "I can't nd my ball. If you show me where it lies, I swear to give up me whiskey and I promise to go to church every Sunday." Suddenly the clouds parted and a ray of sunlight shown down on the ball. Without hesitation the Irishman said, "Never mind, I found it." From Handicap Chair, Debbie James: Awards (gi certicates) for the Most Improved Male Golfer and Female Golfer (for July 2024 through December 2024) were presented at the Club's Winter Banquet. e Most Improved Female was Meredith Becker (the Clubs Social Chair) and the Most Improved Male Golfer was Ron Smith (photos below, le; see below for it's "a small world" story involving Ron.) Congratulations! From the Social Committee Chair, Meredith Becker: e Winter Banquet was a big hit. Lots of good food, great prizes and good friends. What a great night we all had at the Paella Banquet. Congratulations to Lynn Lawson she won our 40" TV door prize. Irene and Blair Becker were the highest bidders and will be having a fabulous time at Temecula Creek Inn. And if that was not enough, $620 was raised towards the cost of relocating the names on the Cross on the Hill. Lastly, I want to thank my daughters, Lynne and Jaime, for their expert cooking skills. We are trying to plan another Poker Run sometime in April… look for more details in the next Herald. From the "Just When I thought that Golf Was Getting Easy," Mike McLaughlin: P. S. As a result of the article in the last Herald, Blair Becker, was upset about something about his 47… 47 putts in just 18 holes! Grimes, Crimes, and Grimes will be paying him a visit and will make him an oer that he cannot refuse. Our Membership Chair, Blair Becker, oen extols the social aspects of membership when he is not putting (probably a cheap shot)! One of those social benets is the interaction during the Club games. You discover how small the world can be. I had the pleasure of being paired with Ron Smith a few years ago. We discovered that we both served in Viet Nam; both were based in Cu Chi; both were assigned to the 25th Infantry Division at the same time! But it gets more eerie: I was coming back from an intelligence gathering mission as part of the Cambodian operations when six special forces guys and I ran into trouble; our outlook was less than encouraging! Just when it seemed we had met our end, an armored mech unit showed up and saved our butts! One of the tank commanders was Ron Smith who had orders to bring "the spook" (that would be me) back at all costs. I developed a new fondness for armor! Ron became my new hero! ~ Submitted by Mike McLaughlin, Club Secretary Lynne and Jaime Banquet and fun Meredith Becker, Most Improved Female Golfer, 1/24 to 7/24 Ron Smith, Most Improved Male Golfer, 1/24 to 7/24
