| SUN CITY CORE COURIER | MARCH 2025 | 5 By Nancy Moniger Who needs gas or electric golf carts to power you around Sun City when you can use wind power! Sun City's 92-year-old resident Jay Gum, his daughters Debbie and Mary, and pet dog Sissy recently attended an estate sale at the home of Kathie and George Pool. They spotted a metal eight-foot John Deere windmill that Kathie put out for sale. It had been in her back yard accompanied by many farmhouse decor items Kathie used to decorate her home. George and Kathie were farmers in Nebraska before retiring, and their lovely home had that warm country feel. The farmers, as the Chair Volleyball club lovingly referred to them as, were moving back to Nebraska, and their estate sale had some wonderful items. When Jay spotted that windmill, he had to have it. He took the time to measure it and then quicky left in his golf cart. Moments later, he came back with bungie cords in hand and proceeded to attach the windmill to the back of the golf cart. Bystanders were concerned and offered to drive it to their house and one lady even stopped her truck to offer, but Jay wasn't having it! He said, "I measured it, and by God it will fit." He had that dogged determination, and no one was going to tell him otherwise. While his daughter and little dog Sissy sat patiently waiting for him in the golf cart, Kathie's sister Patty helped him to secure it, and it did indeed fit. Bystanders clapped and laughed out loud as he turned the cart onto the street. It was a windy day, and the wheel of the windmill was turning furiously. If you did not know better, you would swear that windmill was powering the golf cart and making it go. Jay was all smiles and giggles. As much as Kathie did not want to part with the windmill, she and her family were so grateful it was going to Jay as his enthusiasm warmed their hearts. They knew it found a delightful home. Jay invited them over to see where he was putting it on his property. He has plans to install a new window to get a better view of "HIS" windmill. The old saying holds true that "one man's scrap is another man's treasure!" Resident Blown Away By Estate Sale Find
