72 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2025 | Rick D. Hasenpfulg Born in Los Angeles on August 28, 1944, his family moved with relatives to a boxcar (seriously) along the train tracks in San Timoteo Canyon when he was 9 years old. He attended school in Banning, participating in many sports, but excelling in football and graduating in 1963. He attended College of the Desert before marrying his high school sweetheart in 1965, but the marriage did not last long. He worked for the City of Banning Electric Co. until following in his father's footsteps and becoming a car salesman, manager, and dealership owner in the Pass Area. He married Nancy Miller and had his only son (also Rick Hasenpflug) who now lives in Tacoma with his wife Yvette. He has two stepchildren with Nancy – Tammi and Todd. When Rick and Nancy divorced, he looked up his high school sweetheart and pursued her until she said yes. Rick and Bonnie Seaver just celebrated their 30th anniversary on Nov. 5 and have LOVED "back-road" tripping the United States and taking many cruises. In 2019, they circled the globe for almost five months on a ship. He has three stepchildren with Bonnie – Trish, Devin, and Brandon. His only sibling, Susan, lives in Cherry Valley and has two sons. Later in life, Rick was shocked to learn that he also has a half-brother, David, who came to Sun Lakes to visit and meet his family. It was exciting to get to know him. Rick moved to Sun Lakes (kicking and screaming) in 2000 and wound up loving it here where he enjoyed golf and made so many wonderful friends! He passed so very suddenly on February 12 while getting ready to go golf in the desert with friends. Remembering you is easy, we do it every day. Missing you is a heartache that never goes away. If you knew Rick, join us for a Celebration of Life on April 12 at 1 pm in the South Clubhouse. Friends we will miss Submit your Friends We Will Miss to sunlakesnews@yahoo.com. Please keep remembrances to 400 words and include one recent, high- resolution photo. Jack Merle Barrett was born January 30, 1936. He passed peacefully in his sleep December 29, 2024. Jack is survived by his wife, Ursula, daughters Debbie, Katherine, Stephanie and Leigh. He is also survived by five grandchildren, David, Crystalynne, Jonathan, Alexander and Ronja, along with eight great- grandchildren. Jack's sister, Donna, survives him as well. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Ann Barrett. Jack was a Bronze Star recipient from the Korean Conflict while serving in the Marine Corps. Among his duty stations, one was aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga. Years later, in retirement, he proudly participated in a flag ceremony on the USS Ticonderoga. Jack lived by the motto, "Once a Marine, ALWAYS a Marine." Charitable work was important to Jack, having served as Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge #293 FM & AM, was a member of Scepter Chapter #163 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of El Bekal Shrine. He continued serving his community long after retirement on the Architectural Committee in Sun Lakes. Golf and football were "his" sports. Jack's favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys, and you didn't dare interrupt him when the game was on! Saying goodbye is not easy; for those of us left behind, there is a great sadness. Dad, you are finally at peace and will be missed more than you know. We love you. Semper Fi. At this time, there are no services planned. If you would like to honor Jack, a donation to the charity of your choice in his name would be a lovely remembrance. In loving memory, Debra Coulter (Jack's eldest daughter)
