Member Spotlight: Club member Kerry Peyton is a third generation Californian. Her great-grandfather came here in a covered wagon! Kerry is a lifelong swimmer. Her mom was a teacher and bartered her skills with another family's children in exchange for Kerry and her siblings to get swim lessons. Aer college, Kerry worked for the city of Fresno for 25+ years. She drove seniors, delivered home meals and eventually became the oce manager at Waste Management there. She met husband Pat at work, and they recently celebrated their 32nd anniversary. ey moved to Palm Springs and also lived in the Coachella valley. Eventually they grew tired of the desert and started exploring OHCC, where some friends lived. ey made the move in 2013. Kerry and Pat have one daughter who lives in Bay Ho. Grandkids Sam (10) and Izzie (8) add some zest to Kerry's life. She also has two siblings with memory issues, and she's determined to do whatever she can to avoid that. 20 years ago, Kerry was in a car accident. Her surgeon told her to invest in a good snorkel so she could keep swimming, despite neck injuries. She swims laps three days a week, and enjoys reading, sewing and paper-craing. She and Pat stay busy exploring all that Southern California has to oer. Just a reminder to lap swimmers - the Recreation Department has conrmed that the lane lines are being put in the pool ve nights per week at 7 pm. e only exceptions are ursday night and Sunday night. ose are the two evenings that the pool vacuum is doing its job. But here in Oceanside and the surrounding areas, we are blessed with great weather and beautiful landscapes, almost all year round. e much-needed rain usually occurs here in February and March. We experienced several rain showers in March, but that did not dampen (pun intended) the spirits of OHCC walkers and hikers, who were lucky to have clear weather for their March hikes. We have some great walks and hikes planned for April, notably. Old Coach to Raptor Ridge, a 4.7-mile, moderate hike, with 419 feet elevation gain. We have also scheduled Daley Ranch Boulder Loop Trail, a 4-mile moderate hike, with 715 elevation gain If hikes scare you o, we have some wonderful walks planned as well. We will go to Lake Hodges Piedras Pintadas Trail, a 3.7- mile walk, with an elevation gain of 291 feet. We will also repeat a favorite of ours, the Kit Carson Park Loop Trail 2.5-mile walk. A May 1st walk in Del Mar is also in the works. We hope to see many of you out on the trails, either walking or hiking or both. Please remember if you know of a great walk or hike, we welcome your suggestions, and would be delighted to have any member or even non-member lead us on a hike... Happy trails until next month!
