Curb Appeal Feature | LIFE IN SOLERA | APRIL 2025 | 7 SECURITY CAMERAS Several homeowners have inquired about the regulations regarding security cameras as outlined in the DRC Guidelines. According to Section 5.2, "Security/Surveillance Cameras (HIA Permit Required), cameras must be "fixed view" without panning capabilities and should be positioned to only observe and record the area immediately surrounding the homeowner's residence and lot. Cameras are not permitted to point toward or capture footage of neighboring properties or Association property. Homeowners are allowed a maximum of six cameras: one at each front and rear door entry, and one on each side of the residence. If cameras are equipped with motion detector lighting, homeowners must ensure that the lights do not illuminate neighboring properties and comply with the Exterior Lighting requirements outlined in Section 5.10. Detailed specifications for security cameras can be found on pages 9 and 10 of the DRC Guidelines available on the Solera Oak Valley Greens website. Many homeowners have expressed a desire to monitor deliveries that often occur at their front door, especially since delivery personnel may not always ring the doorbell. Entry doorbell-type security cameras, such as Ring, Nest, Vivint, and similar devices, offer the capability to record activity in the entryway and notify homeowners when deliveries are made. These devices do not require Design Review Committee approval. They can be purchased online or at local stores for prices ranging from $50 to over $100+, depending on their features, with installation costs being additional.
