26 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2025 | Golf Cart Club: Nothing new to report: a quiet time regarding any Golf Cart Club activities. No golf cart parades until the July 4th event. It still seems far off, but it will be here before you can blink. Flag Angels: Even the Flag Angels have had a bit of a break; they last put up flags throughout the community for Presidents Day way back in February. The next flag posting will be at the end of this month, Memorial Day, with flags up Sat., May 24 and flags down Tues., May 27 throughout the community. A couple of months ago, I promised that I would highlight each of the "Flag Angels" in the Herald over the next few months. Last month I shared an observation about a common characteristic that all Angels seem to share: the level of involvement in the community. As you know, many of the community activities are possible because of the residents' involvement, the perfect combination of a terrific Social Activities Director (Tracie Rodgers) and enthusiastic and involved residents. The Flag Angels are a perfect illustration of this phenomenon. They put up and take down a staggering 13,000 flags throughout the year (every residence and Four Seasons and World Cup eight times a year and just World Cup and Four Seasons three times a year). And yet on many occasions, they are, or have also been, on the Board of Directors, on the Social Committee, on the Access Committee, on the Public Facilities Committee, President, and multiple elected positions. Officers of the Golf Club… well, you get the idea. I would end up listing almost every committee and club. This month's Angel is Donna McLaughlin. She has been an Angel since I "volunteered" (never let Don Walsh offer you that third gin and tonic) to coordinate the parades and flags in 2018. Actually, she has been my angel since we first met in 1968. She has been a Hemet Four Seasons resident for almost 20 years since moving from Carlsbad. She has been indispensable as my number one angel, and she ran the parades and flags for two years while being my caretaker for my bout with cancer. She helps with flags posting when I have to sub for an angel, designed and produced the angel pins and the magnetic strips, and does a million other trivial things that are involved with the parades and flags. She also fits the image that I described above; she is or has been on the Social Committee and the Sunshine Club, decorates the exterior of The Lodge for various holidays, and was a volunteer at the Community Pantry for years. If you know or recognize this Angel, give her a well-deserved "thank you" the next time you see her. The Flag Angels ranks are constantly changing. We have lost a number of angels due to assorted reasons. I have been able to replace those angels but most of the substitutes were "used up" in this process. If anyone is interested in being a Flag Angel, I could still use a volunteer or two as substitutes. If you would be willing to help provide this very popular service, please call me (951)- 973-4149, or email me at mikemcla43@ aol.com).
