12 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2025 | There has been a noticeable increase in loitering and vagrancy outside our community due to homelessness. Securitas collaborates with Banning Police to quickly remove any reported intruders. Because of limited police availability, Securitas is increasing perimeter checks in key areas, including Sun Lakes Blvd, Highland Springs Ave. past gate #6, and South Highland Homes Rd. A dedicated patrol unit is now monitoring Northwood Ave. near hole #2 on the North side as well as the perimeter fence behind Dove Hill St. There have been several arrests in March. Residents are strongly encouraged to secure their homes and garages. In the event of an emergency, you should first call 911 before notifying security for assistance. A lighting audit is being conducted weekly by Securitas patrol to identify dimly lit areas where additional lighting could improve visibility and deter unwanted activity. Residents walking after dark will appreciate well-lit walkways for security and reducing potential trip hazards. Sun Lakers are advised to walk with a f lashlight and a cell phone after dark so they can contact security if needed. There have been a number of parking violations in designated fire areas and emergency access points. This is a safety concern. These violations not only disrupt traffic f low but could also hinder emergency response vehicles from accessing critical areas when needed. Patrol is enforcing parking regulations through signage, direct notification, and citations for repeat offenders. Crime prevention is a goal of Securitas here in Sun Lakes. We as residents must also take an active role in reporting suspicious behavior. Some residents may be hesitant to call 911 or security. The Safety Committee encourages making these calls when warranted. Strengthening community involvement will enhance overall safety and help prevent potential incidents before they escalate. The motto here is SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. Securitas is committed to respond to all calls. Be vigilant, stay safe, and remember: • Keep your pets on a leash • Keep your garage doors closed • Drive defensively, don't speed, and STOP AT STOP SIGNS! ~ Michael Volz, vmv1950@aol.com Safety Advisory
