| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2025 | 63 I would purchase if it included nitrous oxide (aka laughing gas). Victoria S. In 1986 my youngest daughter broke her tooth on a tootsie roll pop on a Saturday evening. Her doctor kindly agreed to meet us in his oce to rescue her with a temporary x. Little did I know then that I would be called upon to operate the suction and keep the tooth dry while the cement was being applied. Maybe I could start with friends and family and "do-it" for them and then "do-it-myself " for me. Baby steps. Joyce K at's one of many things you should not do yourself ! Jamie T. I could just see myself as my own dentist. at is absolutely a joke. I cringe just thinking about it! Ruth R. In the words of Dr. Evan Kane of Kane, PA, who removed his own appendix and repaired his own hernia, "ouch." Lynne G. To make this a truly fun and exciting experience, just add nitrous oxide! Everyone loves a good laugh. Barbara C. From Courtney, the publisher: My new favorite streaming show is the Big Bear eagles. For the past three years, they've been on my radar but I haven't been invested in their lives. Shadow and Jackie have had a few unsuccessful attempts at hatching eaglets. "The eggs failed to pip" has been the news and it made me a little sad for them. This year I followed their progress passively, bracing for the bad news. But then one egg pipped, followed closely by the second egg. Eaglets were hatched and they were adorable bunches of fluff. The last egg pipped a few days later and then there were three. Or five, if you count mom and dad. Now I was hooked. I turn YouTube on my television and tune in every morning, leaving it on all day. I also have it on my computer so I can check in with them as I work. Jackie and Shadow catch fish and bring them back to the nest to feed the family. Even my husband Tim got sucked in and I catch him sitting in the family room, watching. "Hey!" he said, "That fish is still flopping!" It's a real-time nature documentary with all the drama. In early March, a storm rolled in. It was windy and snowy for a couple of days. When the weather cleared, one eaglet was missing. There was speculation it fell out of the nest (which does happen … their nest is 145 feet above the ground!). A day or so passed and the snow began to melt and the missing eaglet was spotted still in the nest. Jackie and Shadow continued to care for the other two and after a few days, Shadow picked up the baby who had died and moved it out of the nest bowl. I was sad again. And, forgive me for assigning human characteristics to animals, but Jackie and Shadow were sad too. Eventually Jackie took the deceased eaglet and flew it away from the nest. Weeks have passed since then and the two remaining eaglets were named Sunny and Gizmo by elementary school kids in Big Bear. They've grown so much that the nest, which is six feet across and six feet deep, seems crowded when they're all home. The other day Jackie was sitting on a lookout perch and Sunny fired a poop rocket and hit her. She looked disgusted. I laughed. And their feet! I'm obsessed with the unbearable cuteness of them. But alas, soon they'll be ready to fly and will leave the nest. When Shadow and Jackie have a new clutch next year, Sunny and Gizmo will not be allowed to return and I'll be sad again. If you haven't watched this show, I recommend it. But be prepared to laugh, cry, and root for this little family. I found the joke!
