28 | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2025 | It's hard to believe, only one more month until our Spring Concert "Ref lections on Life and Love" to be given in Abravanel Hall at 2 pm on June 1. To say we have been working hard would be an understatement, but we still are having a lot of fun. The doors will be opening at 1:30 pm and there is no saving of seats so get there early if you want to get a good seat. We have been, as some would say, packing the hall for every concert, so you don't want to miss out on this performance. As I have said before, we always welcome new members and would love to have you join us. You won't be able to sing in the upcoming concert, but we will start rehearsing for our Holiday Concert in September and you can jump right in. Rehearsals are from 10:15 am until 12 pm. I hope to see you all at the concert on June 1st and hope everyone who attends will enjoy it. If you can't make it, a recording will eventually be shown on the Choral Society website and on Channel 1960. I know that we will enjoy singing for you as we have always had very receptive audiences and audience appreciation is the most satisfying element in performing. As you can see from the picture, we are all ready to take our bows to your wonderful applause. A standing ovation is optional. Written by Jack Shabel Choral Society The March Spring Arts and Crafts Fair sponsored by the Ocean Hills PaperCrafting Club attracted lots of interest in creative arts and 14 very talented vendors. It featured artistic talent and creativity in handmade items. Across the expansive Abravanel Hall, vendors displayed a plethora of innovative designer crafts created in paper, glass, fabric, jewelry, photographs and paintings. Colorful fused glass creations were displayed in planters, on racks and on tables. Paintings in watercolor, acrylic and oils were on display as well as beautiful photography of European scenes. Jewelry was also presented to shoppers with a keen eye for color and design. Paper crafts were exhibited including a variety of themed cards, hand crafted journals for holiday, travel and personal use in addition to plant ornaments made with colorful and exotic beads by Rhonda Anchales, past Paper Crafting (PC) president. Also on display were creations by PC member Vicki Dibble including fabric coasters, phone purses, unique cards and the cutest, cuddliest handmade frogs in all colors of green with big brown eyes made of fur fabric which added to their softness. Unique, handmade dolls with colorful elements in fun displays were also displayed by another PC member, Vicki Greene, who names each one of her unique dolls to give them even more personality. New PC member Karen Chavez, her first time at this event, exhibited her beautiful, beaded jewelry featuring some Murano glass beads she had collected on her adventures. The craft fair brought talented artists together with interested OHCC residents and guests for a fun, social and pleasing-to-the-eye experience. As the saying goes — it takes a Village. The Paper Crafting Club extends a big thanks to the set up and wrap up teams of Ed Kleeman, Tatis Cervantes, Joe Moore and committee leaders Karin Barnes, Alison Vincent, Karen Lohr and Lorraine Kleeman.
