| OHCC LIVING | MAY 2025 | 39 RV Club The start of spring introduced an adventure for many club members to Peoria, Arizona to catch a spring training game between the Colorado Rockies and the Oakland Athletics. After a day in the sun, and some off-pitch singing of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame," it was time to continue on to the trip hosted by Fantasy Tours into Mexico near the town of Puerto PeƱasco, just south of Arizona. Camping on the beach was a great experience and being able to dip your toes in the water just outside of your campsite was truly a treat. The weather was initially a little unsettled and the wind curtailed some of the planned activities but did not diminish the beautiful sunsets. Once the wind died down, the weather was nice, and the enjoyment of the beach was terrific. Also, a big hit were the nice meals at the local restaurants, a little golf and a Tequila shots contest, though no winner was announced. Our thanks to Wagon-Masters Donna and Tim Bearman for all the hard work and planning. In April it was off to the annual Mission Bay extravaganza, which included club members staying at the Mission Bay RV Resort right on Mission Bay. Members enjoyed various locations and activities in an around San Diego during their stay. The highlight of our trip was the Padres vs Rockies baseball game at Petco Park with catered lunch and other festivities. Our thanks to Wagon-Masters: Linda and John Slayton, Donna and Tim Bearman. This June brings a three-week expedition to Northern California and Southern Oregon for some great sightseeing, learning experiences, food affairs and various fun activities. We're looking forward to traveling the rural roads and the miles of scenic byways. I understand there will be a tree counting contest, blackberry picking and stories from those who barely escaped by outrunning the bears. Our thanks to Wagon-Masters: Sandy & Skip Harvey, Barbara & Ric DuDeck, John and Julie Pashkowsky. Remember, the only trip you will regret is the one you don't take. Written by Marshall Kelsay Golf Club May is here and spring is upon us at our beautiful golf course at OHCC. The lake? Hopefully we are in progress when you read this. We have loads of new golfers. For a beginner golfer in Ocean Hills focus on the fundamentals: a proper grip, stance, swing, and practice ball striking, while also learning basic golf etiquette and rules. Fundamentals: Grip: A comfortable and consistent grip is crucial. Beginners often use the "ten-finger" grip, where the fingers wrap around the club. Stance: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, weight evenly distributed, and a slight bend in your knees. Swing: Focus on a smooth, controlled swing motion, keeping your head steady and your core engaged. Ball Striking: Practice hitting the ball consistently in the center of the clubface. Equipment: Clubs: Start with a basic set: a driver/ hybrid, a few irons, a pitching wedge, and a putter. Balls: Choose affordable, forgiving balls designed for higher handicappers. Bag: A lightweight bag with comfortable straps and plenty of pockets is essential. Footwear: Golf shoes without spikes provide stability and prevent slipping. Glove: A golf glove on your lead hand improves the grip and protects your hand. Etiquette & Rules: Pace of Play: Keep the game moving and be mindful of other players. Stay up with the group ahead of you unless it's the Vetlesens! Marking Your Ball: Use a unique marker to identify your ball on the green. Greens: Do not drive or pull your cart between green and bunker or allow your equipment on the tee boxes or collars. Always move forward, do not leave your bag behind you so you can easily move to the next hole. Practice: Short Game: Practice chipping and putting to improve your short game. Swing Rehearsals: Practice your swing in slow motion to develop a good feel. e 5/5/5/5 Rule: Hit 5 balls in slow motion, 5 with normal swing rehearsals, and 5 with your full routine. Practice bunker shots at least 5 before playing so you know course conditions. Lessons: Consider taking lessons to get a proper foundation. There are several local pros as well as drop-in classes at Carlsbad golf center for all levels. Written by Teresa Deutman
