42 | LIFE IN SOLERA | MAY 2025 | As the spring gets warmer, we welcome new players but unfortunately, we must say goodbye to two very good friends who are moving. Gayleen Henning and husband Ted are moving to Oregon to be with family. They have been some fun pickleball players and we will miss them. If you are interested in learning our game, come join us Mondays, Wednesdays, or Saturdays from 7:30 to 11 am (sometimes later). Please be sure to wear court shoes and not running shoes. We have paddles we can lend you for the morning. Hopefully, you will decide you love our game as much as we do and will buy yourself a paddle. One new player we have welcomed is Robbyn Rucker. Recently, she shared her story with me as to how she became a pickleball player here at Solera. Robbyn and her husband, Hubert, lived in San Bernardino for 30 years. For 16 years she worked as a campus security officer for the San Bernardino Unified School District. Eight months ago she retired. She's played competitive sports her whole life, including college basketball, racquetball, and adult soccer and she wanted to try something new. She's been playing for about two months and really enjoys it. It was fairly easy for her to learn how to score. "You merely say your score, the opponent's score and either one or two depending on the server." The advice she would give to somebody who is not sure they want to play pickleball is, "Give it a try, it's a great workout and you get to meet new people." She and Herbert love to travel. They've been married for 33 years and have three wonderful kids. So, if a good workout, friendly people and fresh air sounds good to you, come join us Mondays, Wednesdays, or Saturdays from 7:30 to 11 am. On other days, we have pick up games. So, once you join our group, if you are interested in being involved in one of the pick up games, please call or text me,George Dietz, at (614) 940-9506. For other information about our group, you can call me or Sandy Stern at (717) 542-0481. PADDLES UP! And remember no ball is worth the fall. ~ George Dietz PICKLEBALL PADDLERS
