6 | LIFE IN SOLERA | JUNE 2025 | Solera CERT Cadre On April 19, the Solera CERT Team taught a community training class titled "Preparing for the next Public Safety Power Shut-Off Event." Thirty-six Solera residents attended the class on a Saturday morning in the middle of a holiday weekend. The class also had informational tables staffed by the Solera CERT Team, AMR Ambulance, Simpler Life Emergency Products and Guillermo Soriano from the San Gorgonio Hospital Stroke Center. I met Mr. Soriano at a local emergency committee meeting. He was giving committee members an update on the status of the San Gorgonio Hospital Stroke Center. Mr. Soriano is a registered nurse and stroke center coordinator for the hospital. I was very impressed by his presentation to the emergency committee. I asked Mr. Soriano if he could speak to the class I was preparing to give to the Solera community. Mr. Soriano readily agreed to speak to Solera residents about the status of the stroke center. He also set-up a very informative table complete with hand-out material. Solera residents can look forward to seeing Mr. Soriano at a future stand- alone community training class exclusively for Solera residents and staff. After Mr. Soriano's presentation, I continued with the class. There was another table of disaster preparedness hand-out material for class attendees to take home. A separate static display table of small solar panels, power stations and assorted solar/ battery-operated lights to be used when the next Public Safety Power Shut-off event happens. There was a larger power station with solar panels on display. That set-up was running a f loor fan as a demonstration as to what a power station can partially operate. Mario Jensen from Simpler Life Emergency Products was the next guest speaker. Mr. Jensen gave a brief ten-minute presentation on the importance of drinking water and water supply during a disaster. I want to thank all the residents who attended and participated in the class. Special thanks to the Solera Monitor team for setting up the classroom. Kudos to Lane and Sandi Joel for helping me with the microphones and lighting … again. And last but not least, a very special thank you to my wife Debbie for setting up the refreshments table and staffing the check- in table. This was a total team effort and I thank everyone who helped and attended the class. Neighbors Helping Neighbors is the motto of the CERT Team. The Solera Team is always looking for new members. The only requirement to join is a desire to serve your Solera community. The 20-hour training to be a CERT certified member is free and easy. The training sessions are usually held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at various locations. The Solera CERT Team meets the second Monday of the month at 10 am in the Arts & Crafts Room. Please consider joining us. ~ Ron Monroe, Acting CERT Team Leader, ronoap@aol.com, (909) 732-6139, www. solera-cert.info
