26 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2025 |
Finally, Gray-April, May Gray and June Gloom are behind us, as is
spring. The Internet describes the phrase "Spring Cleaning" as the
time set aside for a fresh start, renewal or downsizing. People are
actually motivated to downsize?!
Members can't be asked to downsize the stash that took them
years to build up. The yarn, fabric, rulers, needles, hooks, and
scissors are essential for our hobbies. Please, don't call our stash
"stuff." Stuff is used to describe the things that other people hold
onto such as extra nuts, bolts, screws and varying lengths of rope.
While on the subject, please avoid calling us "hoarders." We
prefer to be called collectors, acquirers, savers, and preservers.
The acronym SABLE was new to me and drove home a message. It
stands for Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy.
There are ways of dealing with your Stash while being mindful of
SABLE. For example: 1) Sewing Etc. Club members have formed
various groups that get together to work on projects that will help
reduce your stash. The groups encourage and inspire working on
UFOs (Unfinished Objects); 2) in addition to the informal groups,
the Sewing Etc. Club has classes and activities that will help you use
up your stash; and 3) the club welcomes donations from your stash
(year-round, not just during spring).
Please visit our website for the schedule and more: http://

If you are interested in participating in our activities or would
like to make suggestions for classes or activities but are not sure
who to reach out to for further information, please contact MaryLu
Belisle (952) 454-1931.
Dues are still just $7 a year. Member meetings are held at 9:30 am
on the first Thursday of each month in the Mykonos Room. Guests
are always welcome. Submitted by Marylu Belisle
