32 | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2025 | Club W The summer is here, but that does not change Club W's purpose in Ocean Hills. It was formed some years ago, to offer solace to those who have lost their loved ones. We will always be available for that purpose, but we have become much more. We also want to bring fun and happiness into our members' lives. We have meetings on the third Saturday of each month, in the Abravanel Hall, except for July and August. But July did bring a delicious evening. We all met in the Palm Court to share some wonderful food made by our members at our Potluck. Sunny Frowein made the beautiful center pieces and Sandy Royce and Judy Widdess were so helpful in making sure we had enough food. And although there were no meetings in July and August, on Monday July 14, we still had our "Happy Hour" in the Lamia Room. Thanks always for going to Elizabith Westwater for organizing these afternoons for our members. There will be another Happy Hour on Mon., Aug. 11, at 4 pm, in the Lamia Room. We are also so pleased to announce that our Thursday Restaurant lunches will continue. Lauretta Hartzell has graciously stepped up to continue the planning of these events. There will be more news about these delicious afternoons as the time gets closer. We are thrilled to know Lauretta will continue to make sure these afternoons are special. I have arranged these luncheon for two years, and will be there to help Lauretta, every step of the way. So, join us at Club W, for our meetings, our lunches, our parties and to enjoy the wonderful programs we have each month. Written by Selma Leighton Pet Lovers Club If You Love Me, Please Protect Me Dear Mum and Dad, Let me stay home. It's too hot for me to walk and run next to you. But because I am a loyal dog, I often go beyond my limits. So, I walk and run beside you, standing still if I must. And I feel my paws burn. I'm looking at you for a moment, but you do not understand. Because in a little over five minutes it can be fatal to me. Because I sweat through my paws, and in this heat, I just cannot get rid of the sweat. My whole body is boiling, but I keep going and then I end up on the tarmac. In the heat and in the sun. With my tongue out of my mouth and my eyes f lashing in the sun. My paws are burning, my tongue is dry, and my head is pounding in the heat that my body cannot get rid of… Instead, let me stay at home where I can enjoy the sun, with a large bowl of cool water, somewhere in the shade. And best of all, like in a cool area with grass, Love your dog. x If you can't walk barefoot then why expect your dog to do it? Be wise, be thoughtful and be kind. Help to save lives.
