| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2025 | 29 Village Vets As I write this month's article, I'm hoping we've officially turned 30 of our members into honorary "Bubble Heads" after their visit to Submarine Training Group Pacific. That's what we surface folks call submariners — though I'm not sure they love the nickname. As for the aviators, they're probably too busy looking for a golf course or beach to land near! We're now into the dog days of summer, with the hottest stretch still ahead in late August and early September. As my friend "The Most Interesting Man in the World" says: "Stay hydrated, my friends." While that might mean enjoying a Margarita or Cerveza or two, don't forget to drink plenty of water! Keep your pets cool, find shade when you can, and take walks early or late in the day. We've got some big events coming up — and maybe a surprise or two. Right now, we're working with the VA Benefits Administration to bring in representatives for a claim's presentation and clinic in early September. I'll get the exact date out to you as soon as it's confirmed. Our next General Meeting will be Oct. 23 at 3 pm in Abravanel Hall. Our featured guest is Colonel Suzanne "Susz" Clark, U.S. Army (Ret.). She'll also be our Challenge Coin speaker and, with David Hef ler, will manage the annual club officer elections. We may as well call it Colonel Susz Clark Day! It's sure to be informative and fun. Looking ahead, Village Vets will again lead this year's Veterans Day celebration. We're in good shape but could use a few more volunteers to help make it another standout event. If you're interested, just drop me a note. And to wrap up the year, don't miss our Annual Dinner/Dance on Dec. 12. Join your fellow vets and guests as we close out the year and welcome the new one in style. Want to lend a hand? Let me know, and I'll connect you with our holiday planning team: Ros Nesler, Marta Welch, and Patty "Perf " Coffey. The elves are already putting together another year-end celebration! Stay cool, stay safe — and stay connected. And now, some pics of Smitty and me at the return of the latest Honor Flight in San Diego (photos above). Next return is in late September. We will get the word out! Written by Bob Bechill Inspiration Hill As we walk the trail at Inspiration Hill, we are always impressed by the varied community inspirations as expressed on the Donor Bricks. The trail begins by honoring our pioneer OHCC Founders, and continues with those who so bravely served us. There are bricks honoring family members, beloved pets, and favorite universities. What is your inspiration? The HOA continues to take orders for your own personalized bricks. Fill out an order form at the HOA office, and include a check for $75. Your inspiration brick will help line the trail to the top of the hill!
