28 | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2025 | The PaperCrafting Club's Group 4 is a diverse group of talent made up of 15 creative members who meet weekly on Wednesdays from 1 to 3 pm. Members of Group 4 include Rhonda Anchales, Cathy Andrusky, Shelley Bean, Vicki Dibble, Sunny Frowein, Lynne Head, Stephanie Jones, Heidi Kuhn, Young Hi Lee, Irma Ojeda, Allison Stewart, Nancy Stock, Phyllis Skall and co-leaders Sandy Miller and Vicki Greene. The most seasoned card maker in the group is Sandy and newer to the craft is Phyllis. Weekly they rotate among themselves to present different card making techniques with the group. They create greeting cards using these ideas and share them with each other when completed. Among the new techniques introduced to the group include junk journal, bubbles, faux leather, shaker cards and fun-fold cards. The groups' favorites are bubbles, faux leather and shaker card styles. The featured photos show some of their card making examples. Let's review the elements of some of these processes (featured online on Pinterest) used in card making. Junk Journals is a more free form of self-expression, artsy and a palette for design ideas. It is a notebook or a personal booklet that you decorate however you choose. You can use themes, crafting materials and other embellishments around your house or just a general concept to which you build off. The bubble background process applies actual bubbles blown in water to cardstock or watercolor paper to create a unique background. Another favorite method of Group 4 included faux leather. You can make faux leather from paper bags, file folders and other papers. Using coffee or tea to stain the paper you choose, stamping ink, brushes, water base sealer, glue and finish, you can create a faux leather look to cards or journals. The last favorite technique of the group is shaker cards. This process features an interactive element to cards. You cut out an element to the front of your card and use a shaker type of embellishment, like sequins, to add to your design. When complete you and your recipient can shake the card for an added visual treat. Group 4 has fun creating and Sandy expressed how wonderful it is to be a part of this talented group. Pamela will share her knowledge and enthusiasm in a program on Growing Bromeliads. She'll introduce us to the beauty and diversity of the bromeliad family, showcase some stunning examples, and provide practical care tips to help you grow these striking plants successfully in your home or garden. Following the presentation, Pamela will also be offering some of her gorgeous plants for purchase. Event Details: Wed., Aug. 13, Abravanel Hall, social time: 9:30 am and the meeting starts at 10 am.
