32 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2025 | Newbies is the official welcoming committee for OHCC, and our mission is simple: to help you feel right at home. Moving into a new community can be both exciting and overwhelming, and that's where Newbies step in. We host quarterly potlucks designed to bring together new and established residents in a relaxed, social setting where friendships blossom and connections are made. Ocean Hills Country Club is often described as a year-round summer camp for adults. With 40 official clubs and many special interest groups, there's truly something for everyone. Whether your passion is golf, racquet sports, swimming, bocce ball, crafts, music, billiards, mahjong, or card games, you'll find your niche here. This month, we spotlight new resident Jane Taft. Jane is thrilled to be back in Southern California and living in Ocean Hills. She spent the first 10 years of her life in New England before moving to La Cañada, where she learned to drive in the Rose Bowl parking lot! Her connection to Ocean Hills began in 1997, when her mom became a resident. Jane has many fond memories of visiting and spending time here together, and it's one of the reasons she felt drawn back. After graduating from Chico State, Jane moved to Redondo Beach and spent 15 years with Delta Air Lines, working in the marketing department. Her favorite role was planning events. She later transitioned into real estate, most recently while living at SaddleBrooke Ranch, a 55+ community in northern Tucson. She also worked for Starbucks and as a stylist for Stitch Fix. The last decade took her to McCall, Idaho and Arizona, but returning to California was a heart- driven decision. Her two favorite people used to be her niece and nephew … now she has added their six children to the list! She has three grandnieces (one of her namesakes!) and three grandnephews. They are her greatest joy, and retirement has made it possible to be an active part of their lives. Her 12½-year-old black Lab, Jack, is loving the year-round fabulous weather in his beautiful new yard and going on daily walks around the neighborhood. A lifelong baseball fan, Jane is especially happy to be back cheering for the Padres. She's excited to get involved in the community and hopes to join the Ladies' Niner golf group, the Wine Club, a card group, and to play pickleball. Jane is loving life in her new home on Agora Way and feels truly at home in Ocean Hills! Please join us at the next Newbies potluck on Sat., Sept. 13 from 12 to 3 pm on The Lanai. Please RSVP by Sept. 3 to ohccnewbies@ gmail.com. Remember, life is better when shared with friends. ~ Lynn Bible and Rosemary Bray, Newbies Co-Leaders Newbies Jane Ta & dog Jack
