| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2025 | 37 Golf Club Fall is fast approaching, and we have plenty of sunshine left and time to master the front nine before the lake is completed. Updates on the lake come out weekly. In July, we had our Summer Golf Party with a fun western theme chaired by Terry Chamberlin and some 30 volunteers. President Mike Guillory (pictured with Terry) rounded up some amazing food catered by Bekker's and a load of huge gift baskets that guests were given raff le tickets to take their chances! Rounds of golf at Shadowridge, golf bags, golf lessons and $100 gift cards from some of our contractors and realtors in OHCC, as well as local restaurants and stores made this our biggest gift event ever. The July Touring Amateurs was at Lakehouse Executive. Closest to pin winners were Kathy Hunt and Rich Komisarek. There were two teams who scored the low gross of the day (1) Joel Batzofin, Bob Bechill, Greg Coffey and Sheri McDaniel with a 47 Gross 11 under par and team (2) Bruce Barnum, Judy Fry, Bev Gillett and Joe Yeates also a gross 47. All winners are posted on our website OHGC.net. Check out our happy 9th hole team of Mark Johnson, Babu Patrose, Vincent Siciliano and Peggy Singh making the turn. Guys and Dolls in July had lots of winners and Card offs due to ties. A Card off is when a tie must be broken using USGA rules to compare the last six holes and if not broken then the last three holes. Scoring well on #9 is the key! Closest to the pin was Peggy Singh and Jerry Huges. Jerry Hughes also got a spectacular Hole in one #2 (pictured). Magic Circle winners were Alan Ballard, Bob Bechill, David Shaw, Rich Dameron & Darlene Fahey. Low gross on the day was team Len Holness, Lin Lien, Tai Ming and Sharon Strickland with a score of 23! Our club is near 600 members and growing. Upcoming tournaments are Touring Amateurs on Sept. 15 at Emerald Isle; Guys and Dolls is Sept 20 here at OHCC front 9. Golf Attire: Please adhere to the attire listed on your purple bag tag as well as the sign on first tee and follow proper etiquette on the course. If you are interested in improving strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and overall body conditioning, then you may want to consider attending an aerobics class to see if it fits your needs. This is an all-standing, low-impact class… NO JUMPING! The instructor leads each class in a warm- up session followed by an aerobic portion, and then she does a cool down. Occasionally, there are a few exercises for balance and an easy dance for fun. Light weights are used for the last 10 minutes of class. Classes are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in Abravanel Hall from 10 to 11 am with instructor Christine Alesiani. You can choose the number of classes each week that you would like to attend. Note: There is no class available on the second Wednesday of each month because of the Garden Club Meeting. The cost is $5 per class paid directly to the instructor. You may pay for and try two classes without joining the club. The annual club dues are $ 6 (please make the check to OH Aerobics). Written by Kathy Palys Aerobics If you are looking for a way to reduce stress and anxiety, and a way to increase flexibility and balance, then Tai Chi exercise may be just what the doctor ordered. Originally, Tai Chi was developed for self-defense, but has evolved into a graceful form of exercise. Some describe it as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Tai Chi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. Tai Chi is low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. It is especially suitable for older adults who otherwise may not exercise. The benefits of Tai Chi may include decreased stress, improved mood, increased energy, improved flexibility, balance, and agility, and improved muscle strength. OHCC offers a free Tai Chi class each Tuesday and Thursday, 9 to 10 am, in the Abravenal Hall. Each class is led by a video presentation that lasts about 45 minutes.
