32 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2025 | Newbies, the ocial welcoming group for Ocean Hills Country Club residents, holds quarterly potlucks where new and established residents can meet and mingle. Our goal is to have you walk away with new friends and a feeling of community. Club membership is the fastest and best way for new residents to make friends and become involved in their new community. We encourage Newbies to join clubs and explore opportunities to be of service to others. Living in OHCC is truly a year-round summer camp and we're so glad you're here. is month, we are delighted to introduce new residents Craig and Gail Scoggins. ey were both teachers/coaches who taught at rival schools, La Costa Canyon and Torrey Pines High Schools. ey retired to Arizona in 2005, but now they're back! Aer retirement, Gail began a second career as a home-based travel agent. Today, she continues to sell luxury cruises and tours. She founded pickleball at Sandals & Beaches all-inclusive resorts in 2016. is December will commemorate the 10th anniversary of her "Surf 'n Turf Showdown" trip to Jamaica with over 50 participants. Both teaching careers were inspired by their athletic achievements. Gail was a college gymnast who competed in two NCAA Gymnastics National Championships. Craig attended college at San Diego State, where he was a dual-sport athlete but excelled in football. He attributes his football achievements to his legendary coaches: John Madden, Don Coryell, Joe Gibbs, Mario Mendez, Sid Hall, and Rod Dowhower. He was draed by the Chargers in 1967 and later played in the CFL. He was inducted into the Aztec Hall of Fame in 2006. Although Craig is not as athletic aer a medical incident in 2023, he still goes to the gym, plays golf, and plays pickleball. Craig's favorite music is Motown. Gail's interests include golf, pickleball, skiing, music, and travel. Craig and Gail are beginning to settle in aer completing an extensive remodel of their home. ey hope to nd their niche while pursuing their favorite activities and are looking forward to a warm welcome from new friends within the Ocean Hills community. e last Newbies gathering was held on Sept. 13, and we will provide an overview of that event next month. e next Newbies event is scheduled for Dec. 13, and details will be published well in advance.
