52 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2025 | e Veterans of Sun Lakes is proud to have the opportunity to place a beautiful USA Flag Donation Box in the Main Clubhouse Lobby a couple of months ago. So far we have collected over 250 f lags for proper disposal via the Yucaipa Fire Department. American f lags should be replaced when it's tattered, torn, or no longer a fitting emblem of display. Many of the donated f lags we have noticed have been very worn out and torn, so please dispose of any that you have in this disposal box. Flag Code leaf lets from the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will soon be available on the f lag box for your review. The United States Flag Code provides guidelines on the proper display and treatment of the American f lag, covering aspects like when to display it, how to handle it with other f lags, what not to do with it, and rules for its destruction. Key rules include the following: Display Time: The f lag is traditionally displayed from sunrise to sunset. It can be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated. Proper Handling: • The f lag should never be used as clothing, bedding, or drapery. • It should not be used for advertising or have any marks or words placed upon it. • The f lag should always be allowed to fall free, not be drawn back or tied in folds. Destruction: A f lag that is no longer a fitting emblem for display should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
