| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2025 | 11 e Value of Reading Classic Literature The Sun Lakes Library Advisory Committee recently started a classics section in the North Clubhouse library. Come explore our classic books and reread a book that you loved when you read it years ago or pick up a classic that you have always wanted to read. Classic literature: books written in the past that have stood the test of time and have long been celebrated for their enduring themes, insights, and impact on society. Even in our modern, fast-paced world, reading the classics remains a valuable use of time for people of all ages. The language of classic literature is often more elaborate than modern writing. Engaging with these works helps to expand vocabulary, improve comprehension, and sharpen analytical skills. Through stories, readers can better understand universal emotions like love, jealousy, grief, and regret. Reading classic books offers a window into other cultures and the societies in which those books were written. Readers can gain valuable context for historical events, social customs, and attitudes of the past. This knowledge not only enriches a person's understanding of history but also provides perspective on contemporary issues. Stepping into the worlds created by classic authors allows readers to see life through different eyes. Classic stories often challenge readers to question their beliefs and broaden their horizons. By revisiting these timeless works, one can continue to learn, grow, and find meaning – no matter how much our world changes. ~ Laurel Stanley, Library Volunteer Coordinator Library Advisory GATE SAFETY: Gate safety continues to be a significant concern here at Sun Lakes. Residents are using the main vehicle exit lane as a pedestrian walkway. This is a safety issue since drivers exiting the community are not anticipating foot traffic in this area. If you are walking through the exit gate, and you know who you are, please, FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY, use the pedestrian gate. The same applies to pedestrians who enter the community using the vehicle entry lane. This is obviously very dangerous. PLEASE USE THE PEDESTRIAN GATE. Associated with these concerns are increased trespassing attempts by outsiders through unsecured or propped-open gates. Be sure to secure any pedestrian gate after you pass through. TRASH CANS ON THE SIDEWALK: For those of you who have a sidewalk in front of your home, please place your trash cans IN THE STREET on trash day. Some residents are placing their trash cans on the sidewalk and this becomes a safety issue for walkers and joggers. RECOMMENDATIONS: The Safety Advisory Committee is making recommendations to the Master Board for additional handicapped parking spots near the Main Clubhouse to allow closer access to the Sandwedge for those who are handicapped and also near the new dog park in the parking lot on the north side. REMINDERS: • Keep your garage doors closed • Keep your dogs on a leash • Drive defensively • Obey traffic signs and speed limits • STOP AT ALL STOP SIGNS ~ Michael Volz, (818) 310-1950, vmv1950@aol.com Safety Advisory
