28 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2025 | Art League Art League wishes Sun Lakes a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving. America gives us so much to be grateful for; let us all pledge to ensure she never fails in her promise to all people. Our September workshop with artist Patti Schwebach was well attended, and everyone produced at least one colorful, multi- media work of art. Chuck McCracken led nine hours of watercolor workshops in October that were a big hit. Many thanks to both talented artists who are both new to teaching at Sun Lakes. We look forward to seeing them again. This month will be very special with the return of an Art League favorite, Carol Cole, who will be demonstrating abstract/mixed media at our next meeting on Nov. 9 at 2 pm in the South Clubhouse, followed by three workshop classes. Classes are Mondays, Nov. 10, 17, and 24 from 9 am to 12 pm in the Main Clubhouse art studio. Sign up at the meeting or by contacting Shirley Anderson at (951) 434-7930. This class will fill up fast! Members $30, non-members $35. Don't miss this one! Our Membership drive will be in January 2026 to keep us on a calendar-year schedule. The cost is still only $20 for the year and you will get a $5 discount on all workshops and classes. Everyone who renews or joins in January will be entered into a drawing for a great prize. We need to maintain at least 50 members to remain a club, which gives us the ability to set dates for all meetings, classes, and other events. Come create art with us! Congratulations to all the artists (pictured below) who entered our September mini-art show. We love seeing the work of our talented artists and are proud to recognize many with ribbons. Winners in the Classic Art category were: 1st place: Pattie Rogers' "Misty Shore" watercolor; 2nd place: Frank Bonarigo's "Elephants"; and 3rd place: Susan Van Loon's oil painting of her grandmother. Miscellaneous Art winners were: 1st place: Lora Huizinga's resin pour paint cutting board; 2nd place: Shirley Anderson's decoupage/collage. Please note: December is a "dark" month for Art League with no scheduled meetings or classes. Rejoice, give thanks, and make art! "anksgiving" by Doris Lee, American Artist Rather than focus on the food on the table, Doris Lee takes us behind the scenes, showing us a busy, Depression-era kitchen. Women dressed in white aprons hustle to gather dishes, roll out dough, and prepare the bird. Meanwhile, a fur-clad woman in the background, perhaps less aected by the current economic crisis, adjusts her owered hat. Like that one weird uncle we all have, this painting reminds us of how holidays unite family members from all walks of life. Fiber Artists We would love to have you join us. There are no dues, just a gathering of yarn enthusiasts working together. We meet in the North Clubhouse every Monday. On the second Monday of the month, we share our yarns and supplies; on the last Monday of the month we share a potluck lunch. We meet every Monday at 12:30 pm, except on the third Monday when we meet at 11:30 am. Hope to see you there. Questions? Call Carol at (404) 245- 6939 or Diane at (801) 367-5999. Mudslingers The Mudslingers have added a Tuesday and Thursday class since our Wednesday and Friday class continue to be full. This new group meets Tuesdays from 9 am to 12 pm and Thursdays from 3 to 6 pm. The cost is $80 per month and includes ALL supplies and firings and has no long-term commitment — you go month to month. Please know we cannot make exceptions to the scheduling: if, for instance, you miss a session on Wednesday, you cannot come on Tuesday or Thursday. To join the Tuesday and Thursday classes, just come by at class time to see Bear Bradford. For more information, call Camille at (951) 751-7151.
