60 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2025 "My favorite exercise is a cross between a lunge and a crunch. I call it lunch." ~ Unknown Our Four Seasons Oldlympics was held on Sept. 10 with many players participating. With 10 years of experience playing Table Tennis, I had never played in a tournament. I decided that as the Captain, I should set a good example and play. It was exhilarating, exhausting and a challenge. In doubles, we played with all the other teams. I survived and went on to play women's singles. This was definitely a challenge and I was exhausted from the doubles matches. In singles, it was two out of three games to win. All I could think about was putting my legs up in the recliner. All the players were good sports and played exciting games. A huge shout-out to Niles Sundstrom for organizing the doubles and Perry White for stepping in and running the men's singles. The champions were: DOUBLES: First place: Soo Lee and Pete Antoine; Second place: Perry White and CeCe Lee; Third place: Sally White and Richard Carrasco MEN'S SINGLES: First place: Perry White; Second place: Niles Sundstrom; Third place: Pete Antoine WOMEN'S SINGLES: First place: Jeanine Baker; Second place: Mary Baer; Third place: Kelly Arizaga The next day after club play we had a pizza party to celebrate! Thank you to Lisa, Jeanine, and Mary for helping with extra food. It was a fun time. The players enjoyed the fellowship and getting to know each other better. See you Monday through Saturday, 2 to 4 pm, at The Courts. ~ Mary Baer, baerhuggy@icloud.com Table Tennis Paddle (pop tennis) was invented in 1898 by Frank Peer Beal, then a teenager in Michigan. A few decades later, he moved to New York City and officially founded the United States Paddle Tennis Association in 1923. His goal? To create a sport that kids could play in crowded, urban neighborhoods. He shrank the tennis court, swapped traditional racquets for solid paddles, and used a softer ball. The result: a fast-paced, easy-to-learn game built for community … and it took off. While paddle tennis was born in New York, the sport found its soul in Venice Beach, CA, starting in the 1940s. Introduced as part of the city's beach-side recreation push just steps from the ocean, the game took root and quickly developed its own fast-paced, gritty West Coast f lavor. The Venice courts draw all kinds of people — locals, tourists, actors, athletes, and everyday legends. Over the years, familiar figures like Andy Roddick, Arthur Ashe, and even Serena Williams' former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, among other athletes, have dropped by to play. We welcome our community to come learn a new sport and join in the fun. ~ Lizzie Gallegos, ecgallegos@outlook.com Paddle Tennis L - R: Val Moller, Mary Baer, Kelly Arizaga, and Jeanine Baker
