| LIFE IN SOLERA | NOVEMBER 2025 | 37 GOLF CLUB Our club suffered another loss during this period. Jack Sturm, a long-time member has died. Jack was the founder of the club's memorial program and, while not playing for a while, he was interested in the news of club members' successes. A Memorial Service was held at the Grace Lutheran Church in Banning. Jack was well-loved by all who knew him. The weather was near perfect for a Cha Cha Cha round at Oak Valley on Sept. 9. Ray Smith fired a net 68 to lead his team to victory. CP's were won by Umeck, Mag X2, and Anderson. Karrla's first round with us led to a team tie for 3rd. Sept. 16 had us at Yucaipa for a 3-clubs and a putter contest. Bob Umeck shot 80 to win low gross and Dave Sampson won low net with a 72. The Closest-to-the-Pin contests were won by Samaro, Anderson, Chapman, and Duncanson. The big news for this edition was the Ryder Cup competition led by team captains, Bob Umeck and Dave Scott. Scott's team wore red and Umeck's team were blue. The tourney was played over 3-weeks from Sept. 23 to Oct. 6. Credits for future rounds of golf will be allotted to players according to number of rounds played. Round One results of the 2-man team event had the blue team with 3.5 points while the red team had 2.5. (14 points wins the prize) The event was played at Tukwet. Wins for Blue went to Umeck/Forbes, Maciel/Stange, and Marks/Mag. Red wins went to Ardis/Samaro, and McDuffee/Sampson. Anderson/Young and Salvador/Bock tied. The Second Round was played at Yucaipa with the Red Team making a charge with points with Dockery/Young, Dancanson/ McDuffee, Anderson/Sampson, Ardis/Fry, and Tony Smith/Sampson winning matches. The only bright spot for the Blue Team was Umeck/ Bradd's win. This left the cumulative score at Red 7.5 to Blue 4.5. The final round of the Ryder Cup was played at Oak Valley on a beautiful day. Team Blue made a comeback with 8.5 points to Red's 5.5. Winners for Blue were Forbes, Bates, R. Smith, Salvador, Stearn, Bock, Parker, and Crowe. Winners for Red included Anderson, Whitesel, T. Smith, Samaro, and Hutton. After all the golf the result of the Ryder Cup for 2025 was Red-13, and Blue 13. A dead heat. Let's see what happens in the year to come. The event was deemed a true success. On the last day of the tourney we held a Barbecue at Marty Anderson's home. Hamburgers, Chicken, salads and dessert were delicious. Thanks much to Stan and Marty for putting this together and to the spouses who added food for the occasion. A putting contest at the end of the day had 20 golfers. Brenda Stange won the contest for the women and Dave Sampson took home the $25 for the men. In this class, we explore a variety of practices, including: • Chair, standing, and mat yoga poses (Asanas) • Restorative yoga and Yoga Nidra • Breathing techniques and chakra balancing • Meditation and cultivating inner harmony • Healthy eating and other wellness topics of interest to the group Multiple studies show that yoga can support healthy aging by improving mobility, balance, and mental well-being, while helping prevent cognitive decline.
