Racquet Club At Ocean Hills under the sun, RC members tossed beanbags for fun. Week one, bags went wild, By week two, teams all smiled — By month's end, So Far So Good had won! Each Wednesday in September, the Racquet Club lawn came alive with laughter, cheers, and f lying beanbags! Forty-eight spirited club members squared off in an epic 96-game showdown proving once again that friendly competition and pure fun make the perfect match. Thanks to our very own "Corn Stars," Paige James and Darla Haubner, the annual Baggin' N Braggin' Social was a smash hit. Every round wrapped up with a lively social were players swapped stories, exaggerated their "perfect throws," and toasted to another great day under the Ocean Hills sun. It was community, camaraderie, and a whole lot of laughs — exactly why we belong to the Racquet Club … just for the fun of it! Friendly competition was the order of the day Oct. 5 when many of our best pickleballers teamed up for the annual mixed doubles championships. Four teams took home medals: For High Intermediates, Michelle Holzman and Mike Ball won gold (on Mike's 75th birthday!) and Meg Lazar and Roger Scala earned silver. The Advanced Division final on Livsey Championship Court was a nail- biter and a crowd-pleaser with Mingwhei Chen and David Singer rallying back from a 10-3 deficit to capture 1st place over Allison Womack and Peter Moon. More than 100 spectators were glued to the back-and forth lead changes and the 15-13 victory. There were 18 teams came out to play, well supported by a cadre of 40 members responsible for planning, execution, and clean- up. John Gildner did double duty as tournament director and a doubles player and newish resident Teresa Randolph made putting on the post-tournament social with a small team look easy — hats off! It's always welcome when players who are not competing in a tournament step in to help from start to finish — like Kevin Sorensen, Bob Storm, Cathy Brendel, and Craig Cameron, among others. Our volunteers make a real difference in the quality of all the events we host. Circle the date: Thurs., Nov. 6 for our fall meeting and officer election. Current and prospective members will enjoy refreshments, lots of news, and whatever Bob James has up his sleeve. Abravanel Hall, 4 to 4:30 pm social, meeting 4:30 to 5 pm. If you don't know what's going on at the courts, you must not be looking! Check court bulletin boards and our website for announcements and schedules or email the Help Desk.
