22 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2025 | Well, the lull is about to be displaced by frenetic activity… the autumn break is over, and the holidays are looming. Please don't be complacent: If you have little ones visiting for the holidays, make reservations now so you don't get caught short. Many items are very popular! We maintain a list of individuals who have items available for loan, including their contact information and the specific items they wish to share. When someone inquiries about borrowing, we will provide this list so that the donor and recipient can arrange the details. These loans are intended for our residents' visiting grandchildren. Borrowed items (excluding car seats, strollers and car booster seats) are not to be taken out of the village or used by anyone other than the borrower. If you have items to loan out, such as strollers, car seats, carriers, Pack'n'Plays, high chairs, books, toys, games, or puzzles, please email Naomi at NaomiBKatz@iCloud.com and/or Rich at redcisc@ gmail.com. Be sure to include the items, their age-appropriateness, and your name, address, phone number, and email address for inclusion on the list. Should you find yourself in need of an item or two, please reach out to Rich or Naomi, and we will send you the list. Additionally, if your visiting grandchildren have left behind items you won't need for a while, consider offering them for loan at Grandma's Closet. If you have clothing or furniture for babies or children that you can't store or use, please let us know. We would be happy to pick up the items and deliver them to Father Joe's Village, which is always in need. Thank you for your attention and anticipated assistance. Your continued generosity and support are truly appreciated. ~ Naomi B Katz, naomibkatz@icloud.com Grandma's Closet Only two percent of all insects are harmful. Why are they all in my garden? I am sure many of us have had similar questions when we see our beautiful gardens being decimated by garden pests and wonder what can be done to stop the damage. Help is on the way! Linda Stewart's presentation for the November meeting is titled, "What's That Bug and What Are We Going to Do About It?" Linda (photo above) will discuss the various pesky pests that are common to our yards and the best methods of treating these unwelcome guests. In 2008, Linda became a docent at San Diego Botanic Gardens (formerly Quail Gardens) and in 2010, she became a Master Gardener. During her years as a Master Gardener, Linda has taken many roles and her latest direction has turned towards teaching. We are excited to have Linda share her extensive knowledge of pests with us (the insect variety that is). Event Details: Wed., Nov. 12, Abravanel Hall, with social time at 9:30 am and the meeting starts at 10 am. Although attendees aren't required to be a Garden Club member to attend the monthly meetings, we encourage you to join the Garden Club for just $10 per year; sign up at any meeting. Be sure to stop by the Share Table for gardening treasures. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting! Save the date for the Garden Club Holiday Luncheon on Wed., Dec. 10. Registration forms will be available at the Nov. 12 meeting. Written by Betsy Davis, OHCCgardenclub@gmail.com Garden Club The Genealogy Interest Group is a growing group of individuals who want to find out about their heritage and their ancestry. Curiosity about those who came before and formed us is important. The group provides tools to do your research and help in getting started. For the experienced we can offer suggestions to break through the brick walls of past generations. Meeting with others looking in the same geographical areas is a great help. We have a few Apple computers and PCs in the computer room. It is helpful if you want to bring your own laptop. We will meet for a Help Session on Fri., Nov. 14. Newcomers are welcome. All sessions can be seen on the Recreation calendar. We will not be meeting in December. See you in January. We are happy to offer the World Explorer version of Ancestry.com free of charge in the computer room. This program would cost an individual over $100 a month. We also offer the Family Tree Maker on several of the computers in the lab. A family tree can be started and compiled with either or both of these programs with many hints to assist in your research.
