| OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2025 | 39 October was our month to have a charity event. On Sept. 30 we had 10 tables of duplicate bridge while we played, we earned over $1,200 for the Alzheimer's Association. Katherine Backman was very helpful in supplying many door prizes, a silent auction and refreshments for the club members. One reason we play bridge is to fight off getting dementia in our older age. It is common knowledge that socializing and learning new things helps ward off this disease. We continue to have lessons for beginners and advanced players wanting to learn new conventions. Please contact our club if you are interested in joining and playing. We play duplicate bridge every Tuesday from 5:30 to 8 pm and every other Friday at 1 to 4 pm. The primary focus of the meeting was election of Club Officers for 2026. To facilitate a shared officer position, the club voted to accept a modification to the Club Bylaws prior to the election. The Fall meeting was followed by a "stay and play" period. Seating, scoring method, stakes and time allotted to play a game was self-determined. This very casual atmosphere enabled members to play a little, talk a little, meet new members and enjoy a relaxed afternoon with friends. The Social Committee provided a seasonal treat with coffee service. Thanks to Christie Abshier, Janeen Shaleen and the volunteers for another fun event. As we enter the fourth quarter of the year, the club has topped 150 members. There are a lot of residents in OHCC that love playing MahJongg. And there are about to be more as a Basic American MahJongg course is currently underway. Reminder that OHCC MahJongg Club Members may use the Majorca room which is reserved from 1 to 4 pm every Monday (for seasoned players) and Saturday (for practicing players). No reservation is required. Mahj On! Written by Dawn Edwards Mahjongg Club
