Our December holiday dance will be on Fri., Dec. 19 in Abravanel Hall. Doors open at 6 pm. We will be serving hearty hors d'oeuvres at 6:15 pm. Dancing to the music provided by the Music Station duo will be from 7 to 9:15 pm. We will also have entertainment during the break at 8 pm. Lynn and Marvin Wheeler will perform two dances: a Foxtrot and a Viennese Waltz. The cost for the holiday dance will be $25 for members and $30 for non-members. The weekly open practice dance parties sponsored by the club will not be held during December and January. When these parties resume in February, they will be held each week on Wednesdays in Abravanel Hall from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. These parties are open to all residents of OHCC and guests of members. No reservation necessary, just drop in. The events are free for club members. Resident non- members may attend one dance party free. Thereafter, the cost for attending a dance party for non-members will be $5. A variety of recorded music will be played that will include music for many of the ballroom dances: Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Swing, Cha-Cha, Samba, Hustle, Rumba, Nightclub 2 Step, and more. The night kicks off with a 15-minute beginner friendly lesson taught by our experienced dancers. Learn some basic social dance steps, then hit the floor. The events are Bring Your Own Everything except pitchers of water, glasses, and napkins will be provided. The Open Dance Practice sessions will not be held in December and January. When they resume in February, these sessions will be held in Abravanel Hall from 2 to 4 pm each week on Mondays. Marvin and Lynn Wheeler, who are very experienced dancers, will provide dance instruction or help with any dance steps upon request. You can practice your dancing to a variety of ballroom music. These sessions are open to all OHCC residents and guests of members. The annual membership dues for the Ballroom Dance Club are $10 per person. With this membership you will receive regular emails describing club activities as well as discounts for dances. The dues for new members who join in December will carry over to 2026.
